U-verse Receiver: IPN330HD
I have a Vizio 3D TV (model XVT3D424SV) and I am unable to view 3D content from U-verse in 3D, such as the Olympics. I see the side-by-side content in 2D, and on my TV, I choose 3D then SBS mode, the screen goes dark, a message pops up to put on the 3D glasses, then the pop-up message goes away and the screen is still dark with no picture. I can hear audio, control the sound volume, change channels, but the screen is dark with no picture until I put the TV back into 2D mode. I am assuming the receivers AT&T installed last July are 3D capable because I subscribed to the then ESPN 3D channel (which was dropped before I could test it). I have tried 2 different HDMI cables - both high speed and one even supposedly "rated" for 3D - no change. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? For the 3D experts out there: there are only 3 issues it could be - U-verse receiver, HDMI cable, or TV - right? Thanks for any suggestions for trouble-shooting.

That worked - thank you so much!! Might have been nice if the manual for the receivers mentioned that, and I did read the manual.

I assume that you do not subscribe to HD channels with U-verse?

Interesting. What was the previous setting for your Aspect Ratio on the U-verse receiver?

It was set at 4:3 Standard Definition. AfterU-Verse was installed, I did see a difference between SD and HD channels so I never looked at the receiver setting. I just assumed since I paid/subscribed for HD and the ESPN 3D at that time, that the installers set the receiver accordingly.

If you had that TV at the time of your install, the technician should have set the Aspect Ratio at 1080i since you subscribed to the HD channels and the resolution for that Vizio TV is 1080p. You will not see an HD quality picture on the HD channels (1000 - 1999) unless the Aspect Ratio on the U-verse receiver is set to either 720p or 1080i.
Subsequent to your initial install, your receiver may have been reset to the default setting of 4:3 Standard Definition. You will notice a very distinct difference on the HD channels when the Aspect Ratio is set to 1080i as opposed to 4:3 Standard Definition. This is the reason that I made the assumption earlier that you you were did not subscribe to the the HD channels and only watch the SD channels.

All 3D TVs must have an HD input signal to process the side-by-side (or top-and-bottom) picture into a 3D image.
However, the U-Verse receiver has no knowledge of 3D broadcasts -- to it, side-by-side mode is just a regular 2D HD feed. If the receiver is not set to output an HD signal, the U-Verse receiver will downconvert it just as it does for any other HD signal, but this makes it so that the TV cannot process it into a 3D image.
