Had the install done on thursday and here are the results so far.
On Fox 2 very short dropouts, Science 1 1-2 second dropout, and on Hist a drop out lasting 2-3 seconds. That is all for now. I checked the stats on my modem and I have 921 corrected blocks but 0 uncorrected.

Hello all,
I have to say i'm glad to hear im not the only one with the audio problem.
Anyway i'm in Shiloh Illinois and i have the drop out problem on all HD channels.. It has been doing this since february when i got service put in.
I'm on my 2nd hd dvr box. At&t thought it was that but it's not clearly . The new box does the same thing and its annoying as all get out too.
Any word when this audio drop out problem will be fixed here? Please tell me soon.. It's terrible.. Since i have been typing this i have heard the tv cut out 3 times in just a few minutes....

One other thing. I am seeing some pixelation when very fast changes happen on the screen. Any reason why this is happening?

Too much compression. Not enough badwidth to keep up with the motion.

Watching the football games on CBS (1011) in Houston today I noticed the audio drop outs approximately every 15 seconds. In addition, there were some occasional drops approximately every 8 seconds as well.

hmarch wrote:I really did not notice this until last spring. Did have other problems of pixeling etc but those seem minimized now, My dropouts are of a very short length but extrememly annoying. Especially watching a concert. Was considering going the sat route but might wait it out a bit if I'm having the same problem everyone else seems to be having. I had an appt with a tech, set 4 days in advance, and all he did was call me up and suggest it was my receiver that was the problem (and a veiled threat that they would charge for the service call if nothing wrong was found). After playin around with different inputs for a while, I'm pretty sure the receiver is not the problem. I did watch a syfy show this afernoon, since the fix was supposed to have been rolled out to that channel. I still experienced 2 instances in an hour, but did not seem as bad as on my local channels. Jury is still out here. Paying what we do for this service, they ought to get it fixed completely.
The upgrade this topic references is intended to improve your 5.1 audio experience by dramatically reducing the instance of intermittent audio dropouts. It will not eliminate or compensate for all sources of audio discontinuity (we're still working on that). Can you tell me what type of AVR you're using?

Local Big Four channels have been upgraded (including your location). I've provided an updated list of National HD channels in a previous post. Can you share with me the configuration your using as well? Thanks for your feedback.

Since I am FTTN am I going to have to live with that or is it something that is being looked at being fixed down the road?
Thanks

I have a sony - STR DN 1000; relatively cheap unit but no issues with my blu ray or apple tv, even when HDMI inputs are switched. I have to admit the problem appears better, with the exception of my local channels here in the Kansas City area. I still get some dropouts on the "fixed" channels, butmuch less frequency than with locals. I was watching a football game saturday ( it was an ESPN feed) on local channel, I think KMBC 9, and it was unwatchable in surround. switching to stereo fixed it.
As I said in an earlier post, the techs think I'm crazy. I've been told more than once if a tech finds nothing wrong I "May" be charged $50 for the house call. I've always had good numbers when they check my line.

I don't know. The AT&T guy posting on this forum said they're looking at ways to improve it. I have FTTN and my max link speed is supposed to be around 55mbit, so they should be able to increase the allocated bandwidth to HD streams in my case.

I am getting this intermittent surround stutter. Service just installed today FTTP in Orange County, CA.
I tried one of the channels on the list, G4TV channel 1149 still has stutter. Many other channels also has the stutter, does not exist on HBO I have noticed.
I also notice it gets worse when I browse through the menus.

Watched local NBC and CBS affiliates tonight (Kansas City); almost unwatchable due to 1 second or less drops. Ran about 1 per minute on NBC. Has KC been upgraded yet?

I was watching the Monday Night Football game on ESPNHD (Ch. 1602) tonight and was experiancing the audio dropouts frequently. I am using a Yamaha RXV-667. The drop outs seem to had disappeared until tonight.
Thank you for all of the updates and for trying to get this problem resolved.

We are looking into the pixelation issue.

We have been working on this issue of 5.1 discontinuity for quite awhile. The upgrade referenced here corrects a problem we discovered with our headends that contributes to this problem. The expectation is that U-verse generated intermittend 5.1 audio dropouts will occur with much less frequency. We're planning other changes to our architecture that will further improve audio QoE. The engineering team values the input you folks are providing in this forum. Thank you.

You deserve an answer but I'm not sure how to respond. I have a SONY STR-K502 at home. It wasn't anywhere near top of the line when I bought it about 8 years ago but so far I'm experiencing maybe one or two momentary 5.1 audio drops per hour (including Sunday and Monday night football). Knowing what I know about 5.1 discontinuity in the industry, this is entirely acceptable to me given the system I use. However, your experience and those of some of the other folks posting here is not acceptable to us here in U-verse engineering. We're working hard to understand the factors contributing to a diminished U-Verse Audio QoE and implement the changes needed to minimize or eliminate them. As I mention often in this forum, the feedback you provide is key to meeting our objectives and we greatly appreciate it.

Just wanted to update my previous posts...Once again, I am in Orange County California, which I believe is part of the LA market...watched ABC for about an hour last night...no drops sound quality was great...kudos to the engineering staff...switched over to CBS and the drops started immediately...watched for about 20 minutes, but the drops were so frequent and annoying that I had to switch over to stereo...drops disappeared...I do not watch a lot of tv, but IMHO, the drops appear to be only on CBS at this point...will try other channels and post back with results...by the way I am connected via optical to my Pioneer VSX 1015...

I live in Folsom CA and still have the problem. My audio dropout happens most of the time with annoying pop sound. This has been on going since I started uverse service over 2 years ago. I was watching the Monday night football on ESPN HD last night and this pop happened many times (the audio did not dropout every time) but the the pop was louder and I was worried that it'll blow out my speakers. The pop can be recorded. The problem is also on other channels also.
My house is new along with the fiber line. I'm on my third DVR box and I have tried everything possible to isolate the problem and the problem is with your service and not my equipment. Every time that I called service, you guys claimed ignorance of the problem until you posted this so called problem fix. I'm fed up.

It appears we might have something going on with CBS as I'm seeing this from more than one location. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention.
