I'm in Pleasanton, CA and have experienced several dropouts on TBS-HD (1112) at around noon PST today. I'm doing component video/optical to a Yamaha RX-V1800 receiver.

I am a former TV customer (went to dish) due to the fact that the audio dropouts were happening on all HD channels via component / optical or hdmi cable. It did not matter what HD channel or time or day it was pretty consistent. Also had the same issue happening on SD channels as well. I had cabling going from the dvr to my Yamaha RX-V1800 and from the Yamaha to my Samsung 52 LCD tv. I did try cabling the tv directly to the dvr via component and then dvr to the receiver and had the same issue. If this issue does get resolved then I would consider coming back.
Let me know if you need more info from me. Even though I no longer have TV I would like to see this issue solved.
Thanks
I am in the San Jose Bay area forgot to add that.

Still have drop-out issues on all updated channels.
no drop outs for about 10-15 minutes
then 1 long drop out for about 15-20 seconds
then no drop out for about 1 minute
then a drop out about every other 3 secs.

OH MY--IT CAN'T BE!!! Now this is what I call coincidental timing. I haven't checked these boards for months (year?) and finally when I do I see that after 2 years AT&T is finally addressing the audio dropout problem they previously swept under the rug? Amazing. This has bugged me endlessly since the beginning, so much that I almost cancelled the service (audio is just as important as video in the HT realm to me anyway). Luckily I had a great tech come over later to troubleshoot and rewire the entire original coax lines into CAT5 ethernet which helped a little.
I also see Orlando was finally upgraded yesterday (more fortuitous timing). I'm not sure what that means but I'm your man for testing here in this area. I have everything but Sports and Cinemax--and a state-of-the-art HT system that can be hooked up HDMI or optical to a Denon receiver. CBS has been the main culprit--almost unwatchable at times. Its the weekend and I'm all ears to fix this---what would you like me to test?

Are you sure you are having audio drop outs? Since it has been two years, and you kept the service.

No question...since the beginning. Even my friends have commented on it--but thats a testiment that the REST of the service is so good I put up with it. Believe me I am very familiar with this issue but a lot of time I use the TV speakers where it's not as noticeable. Fire up a DD movie or a local HD channel (esp CBS) through the receiver and it (has been) immediately apparent. I remember taping a Neil Diamond concert off CBS and it was almost unwatchable--literally would blip every 2 minutes EVEN OFF THE DVR.

No surprise there.
but if it's on the DVR, it's only as good as the original source, right? It's not like recording it would magically "fix" things, right?

Olysd:
I have the same setup as you and have the exact same experience with dropouts. In Kansas City, the audio dropouts are MUCH worse now after the "fix". We've gone from moderately intermittant crappy sound to horrifically and consistently bad. Nice work, ATT. I'll give your poor service another month or two and then get back to good old reliable TWC.
I would suggest that everyone who is experiencing these audio problems contact ATT Customer Advocacy and demand credit on their statements. Perhaps if it cost them enough, they'd actually fix the issue. Clearly, this current "fix" has only re-arranged the deck chairs on the Titanic. Some have seen improvement and for many others it's no better or even worse.

Since the rep apparently can't believe I lived with this #$% for going on 2 yrs now (I can't believe that was his only comment), can someone tell me which channels should be fixed by now and I'll try them out here in Orlando? I really dont feel like re-reading this whole thread...but I think TNT-HD is one...
I did get a real kick out of AT&T's original "solution". Sure...I'll just dial back the setting to stereo...and dial the time machine back to 1988. Whataya know--killing the audio bandwidth by at least 70% "fixes" it. Imagine that...

how long until all the hd channels are fixed? its great to have the networks fixed but it is useless if i have to switch to stereo for other hd channels?
when will all channels be corrected?

Audio bandwidth in any mode is trivial. This is not a bandwidth issue.
It's a sync issue between Video Office components.

Hi everyone, another update. Watching NFL HD today and the audio is horrible, especially during segments with music or a lot of background sound. I'm in Houston.

Orlando feedback.
NBC HD yesterday seems to be fixed. The entire Michigan-NotreDame game (watched recorded) seemed to be free of detectable audio problems.
CBS HD today not good. Miami-Buffalo game seemed like the same types of audio drops and same frequency as previous to the fix. Had to switch back to stereo/Dolby Pro Logic.
FOX HD today seems to be fixed (about an hour). Philadelphia-Green Bay game has no detectable audio drops.
HBO & ESPN HD still have the same level of drops as before (I know the fix might not be turned on yet on these channels).
Sony STR-DN1000 AVR, single HDMI audio/video cabling.

CBS HD -- not fixed.

Well my problem is completely solved. Not by any fix from AT&T though. My AVR took a dump this morning so I'm back to stereo through the TV speakers
.
Can someone at AT&T tell me which of the AVR's you've tested worked best/ had the least dropouts? Just so I have some idea of what to look for in a new AVR. I had always heard that Onkyo, which is what just crapped out, was one of the brands with the worst dropout problem.

Maybe they can, but no one here can because we aren't ATT personnel, we are subs like you. This is the peer to peer forum.

What he means is that this is largely a peer-to-peer forum; customers help other customers. Yes, wd0243 is an AT&T employee that is posting on this forum but AT&T employees on this forum is very rare.

Good news - no dropouts at all on NBC4 in the Los Angeles market throughout the entire Redskins-Cowboys NFL game.
Watched NFL Redzone (1629) most of the rest of the day - numerous dropouts. I know this hasn't shown up on a "fixed" list yet, so that may be expected - but it would be great to get it fixed!!!

Ah sorry should have been more specific. I was having issues with NFL Network HD (which I believe transmits in DD 2.0)
The other channels I saw were OK. Blips here and there.

Watched the Cowboys game on NBC tonight here in Dallas. First half I only noticed about 2 audio drops, but the second half was horrible. Numerous audio drops, just like old times.

Question.
The Big Four channels are NBC, CBS, ABC, and FOX. A lot of people are reporting problems on non Big Four channels. My understanding is that ATT has only rolled out this "fix" to the Big Four channels.
Did I miss something? I'm not expecting anything different yet on HBO HD, etc.

The major "nationals" (HBO, SHO, TMC ...) and the "big four" in each market (and they're still working on some markets).
Maybe a compreshnsive / updated list of completed channels / markets can be put up.

Good Morning...I am in Orange county California market, which I think is part of the LA market...watched Brav1181 last night for a couple of hours...drops were still there...the big 4 however seemed to be greatly improved...not 100%, but greatly improved...watched the game on NBC for a bit earlier...drops seemed to be about 1 every 20-30 minutes.

Watching the Bears game yesterday on Fox in Chicago, as well as the Iowa v Iowa St gaem on ESPN2 on saturday I noticed instead of audio drops there seemed to be alot of "audio stuttering". Meaning, instead of dropping/skipping the audio completey for a short moment, the audio would randomly and briefly repeat/start over again making the audio sound like the broadcaster was "stuttering" . never recalled that happening before.
