I thought they might have changed something in this update because some people have been posting that after hitting play when fast-forwarding recorded (or buffered) TV, it now takes 2-3 seconds to get audio back. The only reason for this would be some kind of modification to the real-time Dolby Digital processing/driver in the STB.

1) My 5.1 system does not have the audio drops.. Joe, you may have read this on the UverseUsers forum.
2) I'm still on Phase 2.

If you can pause and rewind live TV on a non-DVR box, then you have phase 3. If you cannot do this, then you have phase 2.
Phase two also displays an orange screen during the reboot process.

Whereas in phase 3, it is blue. There are also version number checks you could do under system options, but I don't have those handy.

Are they rolling out phase 3 per city? It seems Indianapolis is still in phase 2.

Per city, and box by box within a city. It will come, though, it will come.

And... trying to get back on topic... I think there were many different things that manifested themselves with what got labeled "5.1 Audio Problem," and that's one thing that made this a very difficult problem to solve (because it wasn't just one problem).
I'll bet the changes in Phase 3 doesn't fix 5.1 audio for everyone, but I hope it fixes it for a great many.

There is really no way to determine who gets the update when. However, if you know someone in your city with AT&T, they may get the update before you, or you may get it before them.
The update, just like Phase 1 and Phase 2, are not geographical based, nor are they alphabetical based.
I am not an AT&T employee, but I would guess that by the end of August, the rollout would be fully complete. This is just my guess. Until then, if you wish to pause live TV on a non-DVR, you'll have to record it, then watch it on channel 9999.

I have had Phase 3 for the past few weeks. The 5.1 audio problem still exists for me. Audio dropouts occur every 3-5 minutes. My receiver is a Marantz SR5005.

Interesting. I had this problem from my join date in 11/09, until the phase 3 rollout a couple weeks ago. Dropouts occurred at a rate of many per minute on a 15 year old Pioneer receiver, and then the same on a Sony STR-DN1000 (relatively cheap AVR).

My 5.1 dropouts appear to have been fixed at least while watching Starz 3D HD on demand. Sound was perfect. 3D image was fine too. Concerts on palladia sound good also. No dropout. I recently got the new Phase 3 DVR. It seems to have fixed my problem. I have a Yamaha receiver.

I've benn having a 2-3 secound delay with sourround soud systems connected to HDTV. This delay occurs when changeing channels or using the DVR or VOD. This Started with the implementation of Phase three in the Miami, FL. Area.

These two threads should be linked, they both deal with 5.1 audio and Phase 3. this is a problem that goes all the way back to 8/31/2010 when AT&T was asking for help on a 5.1 fix implementation that has 60 pages of responses and stop on 2/14/2011 without a solution. When you call AT&T all you get is we're working on it.

No, there are actually 2 separate issues:
1) Period 5.1 audio drops when watching programming. This issue has existed for a few years (Subject of this thread)
2) The 2 - 3 second delay in receiving any audio when channels are changed if the U-verse receiver is set to Surround Sound. This only began after the Phase 3 Update. (Subject of the thread in the link above)
The OP opened this thread indicating that the 5.1 audio drop issue (Issue #1) may have been resolved, for them, after receiving the Phase 3 Update.

This issue IS NOT FIXED even with the LATEST ROLLOUT. Please stop making threads saying it is fixed when it isn't, just because yours works.

Everyone here is free to express their opinion. In one person's opinion, he's not having a problem where he was before. To him, that means it's fixed.
If you're still having a problem, then it's not fixed for you. But you're out of line to tell others to "stop making threads". Other people will make whatever threads and posts that they want within forum guidelines, and you'll just have to deal with that, whether you like the contents of those posts or not.

One thing I did try is step down video to 720 from 1020 and there are absolutely NO dropouts while in 5.1 setting. So that tells me there is some type of bandwidth or STB buffering issue.

Of the channels I watch regularly, the only channel where I am still experiencing sound dropouts is AMC. Even all the HBO channels are clean now, for me. Had sound delays for a while, especially on CBS, but haven't noticed a delay in months. I have a new DVR and new modem, but the improvement started before either was replaced. I'm almost a happy AT&T customer. Shouldn't say so lest I jinx it.
