AT&T U-verse is adding 3 new HD Channels March 31st

AT&T U-verse will be adding three new HD channels on March 31st to include HBO2 HD, HBO Family, and HBO Comedy.  These channels are available to customers that subscribe to the HD technology fee and either have or upgrade to any of the HBO subscriptions or the U-400 package.  AT&T U-verse customers now have access to at least 42 HD channels in every market!

Well for HBO subscribers it's fine but, I would like to see more broad based HD content not just special subscription channels.  Not complaining just stating my feelings, we are not big movie watchers here so the Movie Package fills all our needs.

invested good hard-earned money in HD TV's.  We also pay extra for HD programming.  Maybe, at some point

That's just the way I read it, my mistake., I apologize.

As I understand it's been months since any new HD additions, and finally some are added, but only for those who

already pay extra, or are willing to pay extra for HBO.  Quite a disappointment, and I was just PO'd I guess.

That's fine, they do need to get regular HD channels added in, at the same time, they are going to provide for the ones that are making them the most money first. Or provide more premium channels for the same price to attract new customers to that as well.

I appreciate your comments.  It didn't bother me what was said.  I knew what my meaning was behind the statement.  I have to deal with the same issues as all of the other uverse subscribers.  But if people misunderstand something I post and just accuse me of being a certain way or insinuating a certain thing and they don't ask me what I meant.  Then they will get the same answer or response that the person who sent that post got.

But on the other hand here is another example of what Comcast is doing across the nation in which they are Adding new HD channels like the one here everyone  is requesting ATT to Add to their nation HD line up.

Comcast is adding the following HD channels in Sacramento: Discovery Channel, HGTV, USA Network, Food Network, Sci-Fi Channel, TLC, ABC Family, Disney Channel and Discovery Science.

And, why pay way too much for services that except for a few more channels, won't have the features that at&t plans to roll out in the not to distant future.  Here is something to think about,  all of the other media providers know that uverse has some hd limitations (at this moment in time).  But they are also aware of the whdvr, mediashare, and the web remote that uverse does and will offer their customers.  Comcast, Directv, TWC, Dish and all others in between have to offer something otherwise they would look like they are standing still.

Just to reiterate again...even though we want those channels on Uverse, I would never pay the ridiculous prices that Comcast requires to get those few extra immediately. The equipment fees with cable is just ridiculous.

I am excited they are adding more HD HBO's even though I don't subscribe to U400, but agree that they need to add more standard cable HD channels that many people here have been begging for ... USA-HD, SCI-FI HD, etc.  Stuff that everyone can enjoy.

I think the fact that they are adding more hd channels means they are continually working on adding more channels.  It would be nice if they did it a lot faster.  But a little progress is better than none at all.  i think eventually all of the channels that have been requested will be added if it is possible.  Some will take longer than others.

Anyone think they are waiting to add more channels in HD because they want to make sure they have the 2 HD streams first? So that customers are not complaining left and right about needing more than 1 stream of HD to view all of the channels they offer?

No, I think the two issues are mutually exclusive.  Especially since that is one of cable's major selling point when ripping on U-verse shortcomings ... "they only have one HD stream at a time!".  I would think that if the technology was ready, they would be implementing that immediately to silence the cable companies.

OK....well....I called to find out how much it would cost us to move up to U-400 from U-300 and I was quoted an additional $20 per month.  I told the AT&T person that we would have no use for all the extra sports channels so how much just to get HBO and Cinemax added to our U-300.  No figure was quoted.  I was only told that it would be more expensive than the $20 extra for U-400 which includes HBO and Cinemax.  My wife and I consulted and decided we had better use for that $240 per year......extra HD channels or not.

I don't think they would wait, because it wouldn't do them any good to hold back services from a financial standpoint and a customer satisfaction standpoint.  I think there are issues that have to get worked out with the broadcasters of the hd channels.  I think that is why the other providers of cable and satellite tv are still announcing that the launch of new hd channels.  As long as Comcast, Directv, TWC, Dish and all of the others have been around they are just launching some of the more popular channels in hd.  It  seems like it is not an over night process, or a matter of tripping a switch

You were told incorrect information.  Yes, you can get HBO without going to U400.  No, it does not more to add HBO standalone to any package than what it costs to upgrade from U300 to U400.  Now if you wanted to buy all of the packages separately that are included in U400, sure, that would be a lot more.  But if all you want is the content from U300 + HBO, simply add HBO and the difference will definitely be LESS than $20/mo.

I too am excited that we are getting 3 new hd channels. I also agree with many others that the more popular channels need to be added as well, ie; USA HD, SCI-FI HD, FX HD, Cartoon Network HD, NBA TV HD, SPEED HD, The Weather Channel HD. Also I would like to see ALL locals offered in HD not just the 4 major networks. Maybe also start adding some VOD HD, that would be nice. I have this pretty HDTV starving for more HD programming. Another thing I would like to see addressed is the fact that there is no FSN HD alternate on U-Verse. I can't wait to watch the Astros season opener in HD but it looks as though a check of the guide reveals that they are being bumped on the FSN HD channel for the earlier Rangers game. An Astros programming press release says that "When there are programming conflicts in FSN Southwest markets, Astros games will be carried on FSN Plus, a second channel available to participating cable systems." which apparently ATT is not a participator. Another upcoming channel that I would like to see added is ESPNEWS HD, I beleive it launched today at 7am. Maybe a feature U-Verse can incorporate on its website is an upcoming HD channel list similar to that of DirecTv or at least give more updates on the u-talk forums as to more upcoming channels. And oh yeah, when are we getting the 2 HD streams, and WHDVR, and Mediashare.........................

I would actually like to see the day when I only have to pay for hd channels(either package based or a la carte) no SD channels.

These are just a few of my rants. But all in all I am a happy customer.

Comcrap is saying here in the Chicago market, that by the end of 2008, they will have over 200 channels of HD content.  When they were asked, they said that every movie that was shown in HD even on VOD they consider a channel.  To me that is false advertsing.  Sci Fi, does not really offer to many show in hi def.  They do show ECW in HD, which is better than USA Network HD when they show RAW.  USA does not show to many shows either in HD.

I hate the fact that we have to pay for all these religous channels on Comcrap, plus they have several of their own channels that show "paid programming".  They are not charging us enough money for their horrible service, they need to get advertising dollars for their 15 channels they own.  And for those people who have to pay $10.00 more for HD Service.  Comcrap does not charge that way, you have to pay for the boxes which is more.  My single HD box is $10.99 and my DVR HDMI is $15.99 a month so I am paying $26.98 to have HD on two tv's.

Comcrap is only coming out with new HD content every three months.  So rollout on HD channels are slow.

FSN is not even producing that game in HD, it's scheduled to be on ESPN2 HD.
