When will AT&T be getting Al Jazeera English on it's lineup? They have very unbiased coverage of world news that no US News network provides. I am getting sick of having to watch it on my computer and I would think many others would like it as well, especially in the wake of the massive unrest in the middle east recently. They are based in Doha with headquarters in D.C. and London and they broadcast 24 hours a day.

It's a respected news agency, have you even watched it online? It is based in Doha, Qatar where many of our respected universities have set up campuses. I wonder about people who are afraid of a different viewpoint on the news; what are you afraid of?
Open your mind, you may actually learn how to spell "terrorist".

Please stop the sniping in this thread - any further posts not related the the availability of Al Jazeera will be removed. If you don't want the channel, then there's no need to comment. Thanks!

You obviously haven't and are just trying to inflame this post. I would suggest that you sit down with an open mind, which I doubt you have, and watch an hour or two of their programming here:
http://english.aljazeera.net/watch_now/
And the proper wikipedia article regarding this channel is Al Jazeera English

Thanks for the corrected link.
Now to answer your question, I doubt that Al Jazeera English will ever be offered for the same reason that this thread went south in a hurry.
It's sad that people assume that everything or everyone coming out of the Middle East is connected to terrorists or terrorist activities.

More channels are always better than less channels. If you don't want to watch the channel, U-Verse offers the terrific "hide" feature.

It's just like any other channel. AT&T is a for-profit company. If AT&T (or any other provider) determines that carrying Al-Jazeera will be a profitable move, then they will do it.
To be profitable, enough people have to say that they want the channel on the lineup in comparison to what the channel charges AT&T to be carried.

What's insane is that Al Jazeera English isn't even an Arab network; it's multinational just like CNN or MSNBC. It's main headquarters is in Doha which is home to Education City (Where we have branches of our top tier universities; Texas A&M University, Carnegie Mellon University, Georgetown University, Northwestern University, Cornell Medical College, Virginia Commonwealth University, and University College London); hardly a hotbed of terrorism.
All of the news networks in the US have Arab news bureaus, so those objecting to Al Jazeera English better turn off any channel that covers the news at all.
All I was inquiring by starting this thread was if there was the possibility to get the channel for maybe an extra $2-5 a month or possibly AT&T might want to offer a channel others don't currently offer to gain marketshare. Hopefully there will be an option in the near future

I would expect all media over there has been banned at this time with the unrest there; so it's not just that channel for any reason.

Why is it inconceivable that the Al Jazeera family of networks is in some way slanted? People endlessly claim that Fox is conservative,NBC is liberal and the rest of the media is left leaning. Just because someone has that perspective about a channel(which I've heard before) doesn't mean they are stereotyping because they are arabic. I for one would like to see the channel available if not for free than as a pay option for those who want it. I like having as many options as possible. Don't be naive and think that news orgs don't slant their stories. They have the power to mold the way people see things. They all do it.

Al Jazeera: Egyptian Government Revokes License To Broadcast
Also Plans To Shutter Broadcaster's Cairo Bureau
John Eggerton -- Multichannel News, 1/30/2011 11:55:00 AM
Al Jazeera said Sunday that the Egyptian government had revoked its license to broadcast from the country.
According to Al Jazeera's Website, the government also plans to shutter its Cairo bureau.
That came as protesters continued to call for the exit of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.
Al Jazeera vowed to cover the story regardless, and at press time midday Sunday continued to stream live from Cairo.
"Al Jazeera assures its audiences in Egypt and across the world that it will continue its in-depth and comprehensive reporting on the events unfolding in Egypt."
Al Jazeera journalist Ahmad Mansour was detained briefly last week and other journalists for the broadcaster prevented from entering the country.

There is a story on Huffington Post about Al Jazeera's troubles getting on any of the cable/telco nets. Their online usage has jumped exponentially since the Egyptian situation developed.
