How can I find out if my alarm system is compatible with U-verse/Internet? I do have a regular landline with AT&T. But I am also thinking of discontinuing it if I can. My alarm was installed about 18 years ago. Called AT&T they told me to called my alarm service provider(who didn't install system). The alarm service provider states to call contact AT&T. I'm in a catch 22. Nobody can seem to help me.

It really is the responsibility of your alarm company to tell you whether or not their alarm system is compatible with a VOIP service. U-verse cannot provide that type of information.
Ask your alarm company what system would they install if you would have already had VOIP service at the time of their install? Would it be the same alarm system that you have now?

Your alarm system is quite old. I had about the same age system and called ADT for an upgrade. I had a Brinks system. I did end up purchasing the new system but did add extras. If I had not added them the price was $99.00 for the new system with a 2 year contract. With that said most newer systems can have a cell type device that dials the monitoring center therefore no need for a land line or the need to worry about VoIP. I personally did not go that route since I have a land line and refuse to get rid of it. There was a small monthly charge for the cell device. I don't remember the cost though.
I would call a reputable alarm company and ask to be shown the options available. You might be suprised.
