Alternate Audio (SAP) not working

I'm hoping someone has had this problem and found a fix.

I used to have Charter before I moved over to U-verse and was able to use the SAP option, (either thru the TV or the cable box), to watch some shows in Spanish.

With U-verse, I can see the Spanish option under the Alternate Audio menu when I click on the Info button on the remote, but every time I select it I get no audio.

I've called AT&T and they told me that even if the option is there, it doesn't mean the show is actually transmitted with it (?!). I know for a fact that some of those shows have SAP so I think they were just telling me that because they didn't have an answer.

Has anyone run into this problem? Is there a solution or work-around?

Your question caused me to check this option for the first time in the 14 months we've had the service.  I tried selecting the alternate audio/spanish on several channels.....all without luck.   Some channels do not even display the spanish option.  Interesting.  Why even offer the spanish option if it doesn't work?  On one channel (I forget which) there WAS audio on the alternate service but it was also English.  I'm sure it is correct that a lot of program sources donn't provide a spanish option.  I guess you're going to find it necessary to contact AT&T directly.  If you call in again, insist that they switch you to tier two or supervisor.  Maybe they would have an answer for you.

Good news!

Two and a half years later, the SAP option seems to be working:

Menu > Options > Audio/Language options > Audio programming language
