Recently, my home phone has been bombarded by a strange number. Nobody ever answers and its unblockable since it shows up as only "1". Anything I can do to stop the spam?

Not really, I get them too on occasion. I just let the answering machine or VM handle it.

Even though it shows as only a "1" there may be more to the number. Have you tried pulling up the caller list on your phone and just hit "call". I've done that on a few time on strange looking caller ID names/symbols and then hit "1" to opt out if it's auto answered. Just a suggestion if you can call the number back.
edit: you could also give the FTC a call and see what they have to say about this situation.

Yeah, while I'm not getting unwanted spam calls with a "1" in included in the CID, the harassing calls have seemed to increased a whole lot lately. I'd like to get my hands on "Rachel from Cardholders Services" who has been harassing me and a different CID number every time. ![]()

I have been bombarded with these same "Cardholders Services" robo phone calls, too. They were calling twice a day for a while. I am on the "Do Not Call" list, but that doesn't matter to them.

If it's a company you already have an established relationship with (perhaps a credit card), they are exempt from the Do Not Call List.

Yeah, agree if you have a relationship/account with a company they're immune from filing harassing call complaints against them with the FTC.
But don't really believe this "Cardholders Services" in connected with my credit card account in any way. In fact their purpose is just the opposite. They want to you to switch to their card, with a supposedly lower interest rate, or finance your current balance though them. Bet the reputable credit card companies hate them too since they're trying to take their business away.
PS. I'm also on every "Do Not Call" list there is too but it's just ignored.

You may be (probably!) right Uni.
I know that Discover Card is the worst to try to "upsell" on many of their services like life ins. or ins. that'll pay off the balance on your card or disability ins. that'll make your payments if you're off work, etc.
Like you, I just ignore them. On occasion they'll leave a message but usually not.

I got one of these "Cardholder Services" calls last week, the CID displayed a valid area code and phone number from Orlando Florida and after listening to the guys pitch for a minute I hung up and promptly filed a complaint on the DO NOT CALL website. It probably won't do any good, but it made me feel better.

Hey, more power to you jfw and can't hurt to file a complaint. What I've seen is the same recording has a different CID every time so they know they aren't legal and trying to flee/avoid the FTC. Or at least make it harder to track them down to a specific number.

I was receiving the same annoying calls. I was able to locate the corporate offices of these robo callers. I gave this information to my attorney who sent letters to these offenders threatening harassment lawsuits. My attorney received responses from these companies that I was being removed from the call list ASAP. No more calls. It helps to have a personal friend who is an attorney.

As far as I'm aware, Congress banned caller ID spoofing and declared it a criminal act. U-verse cVoIP doesn't offer a way to block these calls. Only 10 digit telephone numbers. You can't even block incoming international calls that are more/less than 10 digits, just outgoing ones. There are ways to set your phone up so it only accepts calls from your designated list and no others.. but not many people are interested in that.
What you may be able to do is turn on Anonymous Call Blocking. Who knows, it's my only suggestion! =)
