I,m not able to see who is calling when I'm on the phone with someone else.
Caller ID works fine when no one is on the phone.
When I'm on the phone and a call is coming in the phone will notify of a call coming in but the caller id feature doens't work.
This feature use to work but lately I haven't been able to see who is calling when I'm on the phone.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Mine does not work either. Are we supposed to have Call Waiting ID? Is this a new feature that they are rolling out or is it an existing feature that does not work? My wife is still mad at me because it does not work and our previous provider had this service.

Go to this site in Uverse Central, log into your account using your main att email account and password and check your phone settings. If the link doesn't work just go to Uverse Central and login there.

I just got uverse voice. my call waiting caller id does not work either. Was on the phone with tier 2 tech support for an hour. They insist it should work. Sent a guy to my house. He was here for 2 hours, the answer he gave me was it is my phone. I need a new phone. He did not know if there is a certain type of phone I should buy but that was the answer he had for me.
Has anyone else heard this??? and if so what type of phone did you buy? Thanks

I had the same problem when I got comcrap digital voice. I initially had call waiting id then I didn't. They tried to tell my it was my phone. BULL! I isn't going to effect 2 different brands of cordless phones and a corded phone. They finally came out and made some adjustment in the way the wiring was done and behold call waiting id worked.
The tech that installed my new stb's said that if I had and now I don't it could be the gateway but it was getting late and I told him that I would call that in another day. He also said that he gets mixed messages about having that feature when he calls in to AT&T some say yes it is a feature others say it isn't.

We just added Uverse Voice and are quite satisfied with the voice quality and features (but looking forward to more as AT&T enriches the entire Uverse suite) ... although I must admit that the actual installation did not go as smoothly as it did when we got TV & Internet.
Ok ... specific to Call Waiting ID: similarly to several other posts, we too could not see who was calling in when we were on the phone. We'd get the beep tone to know someone was calling in but not the caller ID. The irony here is that a few weeks ago I purchased AT&T DECT 6.0 phones (model SL82518) in anticipation of the installation. Tech support suggested connecting the phone directly to the gateway, but this did not fix the CWID issue.
After searching this forum, I saw where someone had success with Uniden DECT 1560, so I returned the AT&T phones and purchased the Unidens (at less cost with better phone features) and they work perfectly ... even with the base unit plugged into a phone jack 2 rooms away from the gateway.
note: the Uniden 1560 does not have an answering machine.

I have looked all over that phone, the base, and the answering machine and all I have seen is Uniden 5.8 GHz Digital.
When I got Uvoice it was relatviely new in this area and the cwcid wasn't working even though I set it up in my user settings. After a few days it started working without me doing anything. Take a look at this phone.

When I first ordered U-Verse the phone was supposed to be the U-verse voice. The installers had so much difficulty in hooking it up, and they were good Techs too, I said heck with it and kept my AT&T hardline phone service. (costs $5 more per month than U-voice)
After reading all these posts I contacted AT&T home phone service just yesterday by email. Asked them since I had Caller ID and also have Call Waiting shouldn't I also have Call Waiting caller ID to see who is calling when I am on the phone? Received my email response today, 2/17:
"Thank you for your email in regard to Call Waiting ID. I will be happy to place an order for you.
Per your request, an order to add Call Waiting ID has been placed. The due date for the order is February 18, 2009. The order number is #### You will receive confirmation of this change through email, automated phone call or U.S. Mail.
The service that you have requested has no monthly charge."
Pretty nice, and free. Have been an AT&T phone customer for 20+ years. Better knock on wood to see if it works.
Wonder if with U-voice you have to ask to have this option added to your plan? Could be the case since many of the U-voice customers are having difficulties with it. Don't know.
Unfortunately all the email messages I have sent to U-verse seem to go into a "black hole" with no response.

We had a similar experience months ago. Ended up getting Uniden phones, and have had no problems since ...

So we switched from AT&T POTS to AT&T Uverse. Previously our home phones would recognize incomming caller's names with their number. Now the caller id comes up with the number and out of area even for local numbers.
The threads I have seen are about CID working or not. Has anyone found a solution to CID partially working?

How long has it been since you switched? If it is less than 2 weeks then your phone service has not been provisioned. If it is over 2 weeks then their could be a problem. Call ts at the number at the lower right hand of this post.

From my experience with U-Verse voice, Caller ID and Call Waiting w/Caller ID are randomly accurate at best.
Ensuring CNAME accuracy will be a tough task to tackle given the inherent cloud nature of the internet.
More annoyingly, listed phone number advertising and call number spoofing seems to be the rage.
I would be surprised if there were a single responsible party who can/will resolve these issues.
It would be helpful if the call blocking feature allowed upwards of 100+ entries instead of the current limit of 20. I may have to switch to the call screening feature.

I called and they told me that Uverse is having trouble with caller id. They gave no indication of when this would be fixed. How can it work with POTs and not with VOIP? It can't be that hard.

What was the answer you got to that question when you asked the person who talked to you?

We have the uniden dect 6.0 cordless phone system. One base (no answering machine) and 3 handsets. It is very sporadic with caller id and ringing. Sometimes it won't even ring when a call is coming in (we have corded phone in the basement and our fax machine that will ring). Other times it will ring (1 ring later than other two mentioned) but only say "incoming call". Other times it works perfectly.
I've read about people plugging directly into their gateway but I don't have an extra spot for a phone to plug in. The tech has 2 of the spots covered and the other ones are already taken. I have had this problem for probably about 6 months but I am tired of it now. I want my phones to work with AT&T!

It seems like people are having varying degrees of success with cid/cwcid depending on their region and phones. I haven't seen one solution that has come close to working across the board.

It's true that U-Verse is having trouble with the call waiting caller id but the regular caller id should work just fine. As for the ringing on the phone, does your phone have a ringer volume of it's own?
The RG does have another phone port. Phone 1&2 plugs from the RG to the wall. AUX is for another phone to plug into for another connection ability. If it's covered it's just to keep dust off of the contacts inside. You can't hurt the RG by taking the tape off and using the port.

Now here's an even better spin on the Caller ID saga -- I just visited our local AT&T store to see U-verse in action, TV and phone. Beautiful picture on the Samsung they had there in HD. Messed around with the remote a few times and then tried the phone, calling my POTS line at home.
Phone service sounded great, and I wanted to see the Caller ID on TV feature work. When my wife called me back on the U-verse number, the phone rang but nothing showed up on the screen. I called from my cell, the phone rang and nothing showed up on the screen. The AT&T rep called from his cell, and the number and ATT showed up on the screen along with his number, but the phone DIDN'T ring.
I checked the history and nothing was there either -- only AT&T calls. Needless to say this has me a little nervous...maybe they were able to configure the unit to prevent everything but AT&T calls showing up?
