Hello everyone, this may be a stupid question, but how the heck do you play a DVD? Since my remote does not have an input button, I'm sure what to do. I know it has the DVD button and AUX button on the top, but I've pressed both of these and nothing happens. Also, is the DVD supposed to be hooked up to my TV, or the receiver? I'm not very mechanical inclined...so please help. I want to watch my movie, which is The Help and have to have the DVDs back by tomorrow.

My DVD player is hooked up separate from the cable box. I have the 3 color coded cables going from the tv to the DVD player. When I watch a DVD, I go to "source" on my tv and locate the VCR/DVD player, hit enter and then my DVD player works.

OK...I remembered that you have to use the input button on the actual TV remote. Did that. Put it on video. The video word pops up, but then the screen goes blank. I checked the back to make sure that the cables were correctly installed to the TV. Still nothing. Guess I'll just have to unplug the receiver to get it to work. Nothing but problems since I switched to AT&T Uverse.

Thank you for letting me know how your DVD works. I don't have a source on my remote, but I do have a button that says Input.

Did you program the Uverse remote to control your dvd player? When you changed your tvs input was the dvd player turned on. Did you set your tv input to the input that the dvd player is connected to. FYI, the DVD player should be connected directly to one of the inputs on your tv. Either in the RF, composite, or S-VHS input. There are several reasons why you aren't able to view your dvd player.

What type/color cable(s) are you using to connect your DVD player to your TV?
Is your TV HD capable?
Your TV (if HD) more than likely has three or four different inputs at least, and what you might be seeing is "S-Video" or "Video 1" for your choice, so you may need to cycle through the other input choices to find the input from the DVD player.

This issue has absolutely nothing to do with U-Verse. It's a matter of how you have your DVD player connected to your tv and then controlling your DVD player and tv to watch a DVD. If you have a surround sound receiver, most people plug their DVD player into their surround sound receiver. Then they plug their surround sound receiver into their tv. If you don't have a surround sound receiver, then you would need to plug your DVD player directly into your tv. To watch a DVD, you would use your tv's remote control to choose the correct input on the tv. Choose the one that the DVD player is plugged into. Then use your DVD remote to control the DVD player and play the movie.

Thank you everyone for all your helpful advice. I did end up getting it to work. The installer had mistakenly, hooked up the cables incorrectly. So all is well and I got to watch my movies. ![]()

I do not find the U-Verse remotes good for anything except working U-Verse equipment. They seem very good for that. I bought a $16 Universal brand all-in-one remote (the URC-A6 model) that is amazingly easy to set up and syncs well to everything. You can look into it by finding it on Amazon. It certainly works U-Verse Motorola VIP 1216 & VIP 1200 IPTV boxes. It even runs sound tubes.
Your U-Verse intallation has nothing to do with your inability to see your DVD player output. That is a matter of have it properly connected to your TV and knowing how to switch the TV from TV to external input.
There can be other concidental reasons as well. Your DVD player may be malfunctioning, the DVD may be damaged, your TV may be malfunctioning. I'd start logically with making sure the player works, then make sure the DVD plays, THEN insure you have it connected properly and finally be sure you are selecting the correct input connector choice.
Blaming U-Verse is sort of like shooting the messenger as the cause of bad news.

If you program the U-Verse remote according the booklet that came with it, you can operate the TV and the DVD player from the U-Verse remote sufficiently to watch your movies. This is what I did. The only "missing link" was that I never found what button if any opened or closed the disk drawer.
So if programmed for the TV and DVD player, you can do things is this order.
1. Press the TV button and then TV/Video to bring up the input list, then scroll to whichever one your DVD player is connect to.
2. Press the DVD button, the Power button (if player not already on), and then it is ready to do other DVD functions such as skip ahead, display, etc. I had to press the Open/close button on the player to open/close the drawer. If anyone know which U-Verse button that is, please let me know.
