Wasn't sure where this thread belongs so I posted the same thread in "Features"
I've searched but couldn't find an answer, do conflicted recordings that are not recorded eventually rescheduled automatically when it is free.
example- two shows are set to record & 8:00 p.m. But only one of the shows can be recorded, will the show that cannot be recorded be recorded at taht time be automaticaly re-recorded by the DVR or do I have to look through the program guide for the next available time slot and record it myself? thanks for all your help!

The missed recording will not automatically record at another time. You would need to set up another scheduled recording if the program is shown at a later time.

I never questioned it since it works. This season Smallville aired on Thursday night at 8pm, they moved it to Friday night and my dvr scheduled the recording for Friday. If it works I don't question it.
The American Chopper probably recorded the second broadcast at 11 because of the conflict that was occuring at the earlier airing of the show. I don't know if that is the case but it works for me.

How can that be? If the show aired at 8pm and airs against at 11pm, the 11pm showing would not be considered a "first run", would it?
Just tried to do that w/Mythbusters at 12mid and it will not schedule them on first run only and on
first run and rerun, it schedules 3 and there are only 2 'new' ones in that time frame, so it doesn't
work here. ![]()

Yeah my recordings are not being re-recorded at a later time if it does not record the first time.
Is there a thread where we can suggest that this feature is updated in the next software update? I find it pretty hard going through the scheduler every week jus to make sure all my conflicts are being recorded at a later time.

Maybe tongue in cheek--for months there have been replies on these threads from "experienced posters" that ATT staff NEVER looks at these posts so people shouldn't bother with requests for channels, etc.

They used to not bother at all, but there has been some evidence lately that they do peek in from time to time.
There were some responses by an AT&T technician regarding some incorrect sports blackouts, and someone from AT&T has been looking at the 5.1 audio drops thread as well.
As the forum has gotten bigger and the community knowledge has increased, AT&T has begun to pay more attention to the forum.

Agree SomeJoe and AT&T reps were monitoring the "Closed captions" thread closely. This may have been what helped expedite the fix on the MTV Network channels. In fact it was an AT&T employee, UVTVguru, that posted the announcement the problem had been resolved.
Part of the job duties of the UverseCare Tier 2 agents is reading/monitoring blogs, twitter and forums.
While many of us have said AT&T doesn't monitor this forum that may be in the past. ![]()

To sum it up, AT&T DOES look at these forums and I pass on pertinent information & topics as well.
However, it's not the place to get an official, direct response from AT&T for your questions, complaints, thoughts and concerns. While that may happen from time to time, the intent of this forum is to be a peer-to-peer forum.
I hope that makes sense.

You are very lucky then, because it does not work like that at all for me. I always set the series to record at any day and any time for first run only. By setting it that way, I would expect the DVR to pick up the show if the day or time moves, and also pick up the show if it can not record because of a conflict, but is available at an alternate time. There are many shows on networks like USA that air multiple times during the week and the DVR should automatically pick the first showing that is available with no conflict. I know that TIVO works that way. It has excellent software for handling recordings. In fact because of the issue with Halmark channels, I may have to drop U-Verse and go back to Cable using TIVO.
Unfortunately U-Verse does not work that way. It requires a high amount of manual intervention. If there are conflicts, you have to manually resolve them. It will not even let you pick the alternate time/date and set the series up for recording, because it will swithch back to the conflicted one and give you a message that there is a conflict. The only way to do it is to record a single show manually or change the series to a specific time/day, which is not the best way to handle.

Have you tried using SERIES PRIORITY? That is very helpful for resolving conflicts.
Recorded TV > Series > Series Priority

Yes, I do use series priority, and as far as I can tell that works fine. My problem is when there are 5 things scheduled to record at the same time, the system can only handle 4 of them, and so the lowest priority one gets thrown out. Not happy with that, but I understand it.
The problem is that if one or more of those shows is a show that plays multiple times during the week, it should be the one that is thrown out and then recorded at the alternate time. The system should handle it automatically like TIVO does, but even if it doesn't handle it automatically, it should allow me to reset one of the shows to record the series at the alternate day/time, but it won't even let me do that. If I cancel one of the series so the conflict goes away, and then attempt to set the series to record at the alternate day/time, it finds it way back to the original day/time and gives me a message that the series can not be recorded because of a conflict.
The only way that I can make it work is to manually set each individual episode recording. A real bummer in the world of computers. Combine that with no Hallmark Channels, and I am thinking about returning to Time Warner Cable.

How does the Time Warner DVR handle conflicts?

The Time Warner DVR software and user interface is very poor and I did not use it, but you can use a TIVO on the cable which is what I had. TIVO has outstanding software for setting up recordings and handling conflicts. It is simple to use and automatically adjust to conflicts and schedule changes. The U-Verse user interface is similar to TIVO, but the software is no where near as good for handling conflicts and changes.

Yeah, I have 2 Tivo HD DVR's connected to OTA antennas which I use to record the local broadcast channels, so I'm familar with how the Tivo works. I was wondering how the U-verse DVR compares to the Time Warner DVR or other DVR's provided by TV providers. The Tivo DVR is a 3rd party DVR.

I would rank TIVO the best, U-Verse as 2nd, and the TW DVR as a distant 3rd.

Thanks. I was looking at how the U-verse DVR ranks against the DVR's provided by other TV providers not including the Tivo since it is provided by a 3rd party company.
