Have you tried running the CD-ROM to finish the activation? If you don't have a CD or can't find it, then try these instructions: http://www.obviously.com/tech_tips/Yahoo_DSL_setup

That is pure speculation though, I never did have ADSL service through AT&T. I did have it through MSN though, and I still have my Arescom NetDSL 800 series modem for it, they never asked for it back, nor did they charge us for it.
