Hello all,
I spent a few hours and wrote a detailed review of AT&T U-Verse with lots of pictures and photos. Hopefully it will be useful for people trying to make up their mind if they want to switch to U-Verse or not.
Check it out:

I don't have the time right now to look thru all of what is on your page there, but the images and the photos are excellent! ![]()
I am going to make sure I float this thread to the top so I can refer the folks who want to see some of the ins and outs of Uverse, plus the pics of the equipment.
Thanks for taking the time to do this. Defintely worthy of a judos for sure. ![]()

Well thank you. I really like U-Verse but I was frustrated at the lack of technical reviews when I was wanting to switch. Hopefully this is helpful!!

Very, very good job Chris, there should be link to this somewhere here on Utalk. The only inconsistancy I found was you wrote you were using composite to get HD, I think you meant component, might be good to change it as an unknowing person will think they can get HD from composite. As Pip said great pictures and graphics. ![]()

WELL DONE !!!! VERY WELL DONE !!!!
I have had U-Verse since December of 2008. Believe it or not I only got the TV & Internet. I keep my phone as it was instead of going over to Internet phone. After reading your review, I will be calling AT&T tomorrow and scheduling and install.
Thank you for you time spent on the review.

Very nicely done, Chris. Of course, since we are two different people, I don't necessarily agree with all of your opinions. But you've done a good job at capturing the overall concept. Certainly went to more work than I would be willing to do. Sorry to hear that your install was difficult. Some are.....most aren't. Ours went smoothly, thank goodness.

Thank you for your comments Phil. I would certainly welcome a discussion on the items we differ upon as I don't claim to have all the answers, only some opinions.

Thanks. My plan is to write up a more detailed review of the HomeGateway in a different article. It has some neat features but also some querkyness as well...

Excellent review Chris. We have had it for about 2 months, and it has been quite good. This is easily the best review that I have read about the service.
Thank you sir. I am glad you found it helpful. Hopefully I can get my review on the Home Gateway administration done soon as well.

Your bill total surprises me (seems low) but just to be clear you did not add a premium/sports or extra HD and how much is the phone service?
And if you dont mind sharing how much was your first bill?
A breakdown would be nice ![]()

Excellent review Chris.
My one comment, coming from cable which did not have a number of the features that U-verse does, is that Flicker works pretty nice but I suppose that if you already have a lot of content someplace else it would be a negative.
I was amazed that AT&T allows access to the RG at all. I did not think that the interface was so bad for something that I imagined was designed for service types. It's not that much different than the interface found in things like wireless routers. It is a little better if you can find the main navigation tree at;
http://192.168.1.254/xslt?PAGE=J03&THISPAGE=A02_PO
You do need to enter the password that is found on the bottom of the RG.
There should probably be some sort of disclaimer on any information relating to logging in to the RG that changing some settings my cause your service to be interrupted and require a service call to reset it back to the factory default.
Again a great review!!!

Agree with you lrdriver-
Its nice to see everything in the RG. That is one big advantage from other systems. You can see the detailed stats, etc and provide that data to others such as yourself for review.
I love to get in there and analyze everything. This IPTV stuff is very cool and l learn something new everyday.

Larry, thanks for the tip on the link to the summary / tree view of the HG menu system. This IS awesome. This is the link that makes the system so much easier to navigate.
Thanks for sharing that. I have it booked marked on my system now.
For those of you that are no network savy, in the link above, change the "192.168.1.254" part to the IP address of your Home Gateway and you will have it.

Most sites by a paid professional are not as well done as your review. It would be nice if OP could make it a sticky at the top. AT&T should pay you. Hope to see you around.

Actually Chris, those links to the various areas in the RG diagnostic console can only be seen when you are on your computer connected thru Uverse, so there is no real need to change anything in any of the links.
Everyone only sees the info for their own systems. ![]()

You are not understanding the point I was making... If you have changed your internal ip addressing for your home network, then IP addresses have to change. That is what I was pointing out. My internal network is 10.x.x.x so my HG is actually at 10.1.1.1 not 192.168.1.254

Okay, see what you are saying, but even with a change, wouldn't those links still work? Admittedly, I don't know much about that stuff. That's why I don't answer any questions in th HSI forum or very little!
No problem. I have been in the IP networking business for over 15 years now.

http://gateway.2wire.net is a DNS alias built in to the RG for accessing the internal web server. I don't know if it is hard coded to the default addressing scheme or not since I've not changed my internal addresses.
