About a month ago the internet became really slow, I've already redone the cable from outside the house to the router with RG6, which cut the reported distance to the router from 2700 to 2500 on uvrealtime. I called a tech yesterday and she said there were some things they could do on her end to help. I was on the 12/1.5 plan, since I wasn't home the service rep worked with my brother who was home to do some speed tests. Everything looked normal (~11mbps), she ended up putting him on hold and the line went dead after 10 mins.
Now speed tests are clocking in at 16mpbs, so I'm guessing her solution was to bump us up to the 18mbps plan. Before calling uvrealtime showed around 10,000+ corrected blocks in the last 24 hours. The screens look better so far, but is my bitloading results normal for my distance?

Actually now the homerun from the NID to the RG should be done w/cat5e, coax has been found to cause basic problems at times.
Let the error table run for a few days to see what is happening now. ![]()

Should I call uverse support and request that they change me from coax to cat5 then?
I was really hoping someone would say I have an obvious case of a bridge tap and after removing it I'd have a strong enough signal that I'd be able to get the 32/5 profile. I don't care about the download but this 1.5mbps upload bottleneck is killing me.

Bitloading doesn't look the best, but at 2500' they never look real good. Might have a bridge tap/interference problem w/that buzz saw look. Did TS check your line yesterday? If yes, the tech should hae seen some problems.
Don't think you'll ever have a 32/5 profile at that distance, it's too far. If getting few errors, RG-6 will be fine, they'd charge a truck roll fee to change it to cat5e, you need a different balun in the Nid. ![]()

SomeJoe - thanks for looking at my numbers, I appreaciate all the help and advice I've learned from other threads. While I was hoping for a quick fix that would get me faster service I had a feeling I'd be stuck with what I currently have.
Whatever TS did on their end cut the error table from ~11,000 errors a day to ~1,300 errors a day so far. I'll have to watch my bill but I might have also got free bump to the next tier of speed. Looks like I'm stuck waiting for VDSL2 before I can upgrade anymore.
For over twice the price I could get 50/10 service from xfinity, but I refuse to give comcast any of my business. Just wish U-Verse would be more competitive on speed.

Unlukily VDSL may never be coming to you as ATT has pretty much stopped expanding Uverse and as of now there is no technology to get you closer to the VRAD you are now using. ![]()
AT&T is scheduled to reach 30 million U-verse homes passed by the end of the year (2011) with their U-Verse service, or roughly 55-60% of their homes. They will virtually stop there according to President John Stankey speaking at Citibank, who announced 55-60% as their ultimate goal. He suggested that 25-30% of AT&T homes will only be offered ADSL (2/2+ IPDSLAM). 20% are "not a heavy emphasis for investment," i.e. 5-10 million of AT&T's 50 million homes are screwed unless they have a decent cable alternative. (Yes, rounding means not necessarily equal to 100 %.)
