ESPN Deportes HD, why is not available?

ESPN Deportes HD is been available long time ago on other TV companies.

How come Uverse does not have it?

It is really hard to watch a soccer game on a very reduce image because of the vertical bars and using the zoom option is not an option, the quality of the image is reduced a lot.

Gol TV and Fox Soccer is available on HD so I don't understand why ESPN Deprtes is not. Is this a money (deal) issue?

When there is a soccer game from Spain that is going to be broadcasted only in ESPN Deportes, I have to sync up with my neighbors to watch the game on their DirecTV, Dish Network, ... systems.

You have access to Gol TV HD with U-verse.  They will be showing the big game this Saturday.  Gol TV has commentary in english and spanish (using SAP).  You don't need ESPN Deportes HD to see the game, though it would be nice to have that channel.

Real Madrid games are one week on GolTV when they are home,

and the next week on ESPN Deportes when they are away.

Or maybe the opposite, I don't remember now.

So one week I can see a beautiful HD game on GolTV and the next week a ridiculous small screen on ESPN Deportes.

And I know ESPN Deportes HD is ready, it is just not included on Uverse.

We need ESPN Deportes HD. I use to be a Comcast customer. Please get it into the lineup! Comcast and other competitors have it.

We purchased the latino package to ONLY to watch ESPN Deportes. I have the HD package. The quality of the ESPN Deportes that you offers is not only not HD but SUBPAR.

The channel does not even fill the entire screen. When you try to expand it (ZOOM), it gets distorted. 

I am very dissapointed and I hope that you guys get it in the shortest time.

According to the website found in the link below, of the major providers, only Time Warner and Bright House offer ESPN Deportes HD.  If you want to make it known that you would like to see the channel added to U-verse, use the link provided above to enter a formal channel request.

This is not about defending ATT. Texasguy I have already submitted this form and nothing happens. Nobody contacts you and when you call them they cant do anything. I am asking for a better service. It is a simple channel. The service is subpar. the channel that ATT is providing doesnt even look real. It does not fill up the entire screen! When you zoom in on it it jus looses clarity! Unbelievable! Atleast get a channel that covers the entire screen and looks acceptable. I am from a 3rd world country and in my country the normal channels fill up the entire screen. HD channels look amazing though. Lets hope UVERSE gets ESPN DEPORTES HD.

I'm a having the same issue, I also don't know where to call or contact because no one gives me an answer. A lot of my friends and me, are thinking about changing to directv or comcast. Can somebody in ATT at least show a little interest in solving a problem with a channel one can just see in a very small square!!!??? is like watching the smurfs playing soccer in Spain!!!

And you still won't have ESPN Deportes in HD if you switch to Direct TV or Comcast.  As has been stated in a previous post, ONLY Brighthouse has it in all of their areas, and TWC in limited areas. 

AT&T UVerse has more HD channels than any other provider, and here's the truth behind it and not a rumor.

Have you tried getting a bigger square?

If you do choose to switch to Comcast or DirecTV, don't be suprised when you find out that they don't have ESPN Deportes in HD either.

ESPN, for all of the millions that flow through their grubby hands, only recently decided to do an HD feed for Deportes. If memory serves, they launched it somewhere around September/October of 2011. My big question is: Why wait for so long?

And here is why:

Deportes was almost always an "afterthought" in the ESPN empire. News Corp and their Fox Sports Deportes, as well as GOL TV, had the most popular leagues sewn up. ESPN couldn't get their hands on the Mexico league, because those games are broadcast by the Mexican broadcasters. Their only link to England's Premier League was ONE sole game a week. In the ESPN business model, football (as the world knows it) wasn't a high priority, simply because everyone else had it before they could attempt to weasel in. They were simply trying to use their name, hoping it would be just as big, but in a Spanish language. The only other European league they could get signed was Eredivisie from The Netherlands, and even that they pay scant attention to.

So what made them decide to finally offer an HD feed? News Corp's decision to re-brand Fox Sports en Espanol to Fox Sports DEPORTES. News Corp was now treading a bit too close to their only way of connecting with the Latin market. Their names were going to be the same, they HAD to find some way of differentiating themselves.

Just follow ESPN's decision making over the years:

They rolled out HD on the two primary channels. Then they put News in HD, because more cable systems were adding HD to their lineups. Their college channel ("U") was not on the short-list to get its HD feed, as ESPN was busy trying to get the additional money from outside the US --- starting up ESPN America as a premium network across the European continent. Deportes fell lower and lower in their list of priorities.

Ask yourself this question, as well: DirecTV attempts to market itself as the place for sports. With that reputation, and with ESPN's muscle, why haven't they been a "first-adopter" of ESPN Deportes in HD? And if you're thinking Comcast is going to add it anytime soon, are YOU sadly mistaken. They just started to roll out Fox Soccer HD, and don't even have THAT in all of their upgraded systems yet. No Fox Soccer Plus over on Comcast, either.

Uverse will probably be adding it this year, along with probably getting the national feeds (instead of being limited to local-only) of the US Spanish networks (Univision, Telefutura, Galavision, Telemundo) in HD.

You need to put the channel as normal!!! I dont care if it is not HD - I just want to see the game normal size.... not inside a small- rectangle square--- with two ESPN logos on the side!!! that is absurd, it only happens with ATT.. Ive tried all size and new TVS and nothing. Mine is a 42 and nothing. SMURFS PLAYING SOCCER

When you mean "normal" do you mean a 4x3 with the two black bars on the side of the screen? I don't think AT&T is doing anything funky with the way the channel is displayed. A new TV wouldn't do much.

Normal mean not an HD channel if it is not available. I want the channel to look normal, as it looks with other cable providers like directv or comcast. Maybe if the people who answer this forum take a look at the channel, they will know what I'm talking about, why replay if you don't know? Take a look, channel 3113 ESPN DEPORTES!!!

Most of us cannot check out the appearance of Channel 3113 ESPN Deportes because it is part of a subscription package for Spanish language  channels. Hopefully, someone who subscribes to the package can confirm what you are saying about the appearance of the channel.

Do the following when viewing that channel:

1. Press the ENTER (ZOOM) button on the remote in the lower right hand corner

2. Select Zoom from the menu and press OK

3. Select  Zoom 3 and press OK

Remember to set the Zoom setting back to Normal when viewing other channels.

Thank you, that way is much better, although the image does not look completly clear. Is there a way I can improve the image quality after I zoom it? But thank you again, it looks much better.

It's a SD broadcast.  It would look better watching on an SD TV instead of an HDTV.

Since I don't get the RSNs (no $5 HD Premium tier), I was surprised to see the feed from SportSouth with the pillarboxes on either side when they were transmitting 4:3 content during this free preview period. Used to seeing it occasionally on TNT, TBS, or ESPN during commercials, but was the first time seeing it full-time during regular programming.

Once again, NOT a problem that can be laid at the feet of AT&T.

I'm viewing the channel now and it is smaller than most channels, but that's ESPN feed and nothing AT&T can do about it.  Complain about the quality to ESPN and let them know you're not happy with it.  If enough people complain to them maybe they'll correct it. AT&T doesn't do anything but retransmit what they are given.

Nevermind the fact that it's 4x3 with the black bars along the top, it has the ESPN logos taking up half of the rest of the screen, if I tried watching on a regular basis I'd complain to ESPN.

While I sympathize with your issue, AT&T isn't at fault in this one. It's all on ESPN.

It is Uverse that doesn't care about the requests and complains from us and they don't get the HD channel.

DirecTV and Dish Network have the channel available on HD.

U-verse just don't give a [word filter avoidance] about the customers.

You based that on the fact that everything a customer asks for doesn't occur?  Imagine if kids had that view of their parents.

Not many providers carry ESPN Deportes HD.  I assume you put all of those who do not carry the channel in the same category of U-verse as not carrying about the customers.

AT&T does have the channel available in HD.  However many of the programs shown on ESPN Deportes are NOT HD, that is not AT&T's fault, it's ESPN broadcast.

AT&T does have the channel available in HD.  However many of the programs shown on ESPN Deportes are NOT HD, that is not AT&T's fault, it's ESPN broadcast.

I assume you're talking about ESPN Deportes HD. i just checked, and it is not on AT&T. In fact, it's only on two or three providers, as already stated.

Earlier in this thread, someone was complaining about 16x9 and black bars on the top and bottom. When re-transmitting an HD feed onto an SD channel, the channel has two options. They can chop off the sides of the 16x9 image and put the pillarboxes on the left and right sides of the screen. The other option is to put black bars on ALL SIDES of the screen and give the whole 16x9 image. GOL TV used to do this second method.

You're saying they put a 16x9 SD image (black bars on all sides) and additional black bars during an SD picture? The best thing to do in this case, IMO, is to zoom the image.
