Well I was having some wireless problems (those of you on UU probably know this already) and a tech was here today. He showed me something that I never knew. On the coax STBs, the ethernet port at the back becomes a normal LAN port. So you can plug a computer into that and get working service. That's what he did to one of my computers. I thought I would share this with you guys incase you never knew about it.

Sorry, I thought you knew. I had 2 techs here in the past week and they were AMAZED I was using the coax STB for Internet!

It surprises me that your techs were shocked by you using your STB for an Ethernet connection, but the one tech that has come out since my HPNA bridging quest didn't seem all that amazed at all...Maybe he didn't quite realize what I was doing, or how I was doing it?

The last one here got warned by me to not trip over the cord across the floor, he saw it was Ethernet and plugged into my laptop and asked if I had an outlet there. I told him I was using the STB for Ethernet. He kept looking at the back and just couldn't believe it. I dunno...guess there's a lot to learn, and if you don't have UV yourself?

My tech said the same thing happened to him. About a month ago he went to someone's house and he saw they had their Xbox plugged into an STB.

So far my wireless is fine. This is the same tech who did my install as well. He was on the phone with someone else and he referred to our house as one of the originals. I guess that means were one of the first ones to sign up.

Now this is a nifty thing to know -- I can imagine there are folks who don't have Ethernet run to certain parts of the house that might like being able to use the STBs as bridges.
