Hello, I am new to U-Verse and the forums...
My wireless download speeds on my pc (which is older) are only 5 to 6 mbps, wireless is 16 plus. My iPhone also gets 16 plus. I'm signed up for the 18mbps service.
Can this be because my PC is a bit older or is something wrong with my PC setup?
My wireless card is a Linksys WMP54G, and I've also tried a Cisco (Linksys) AE2500 usb adaptor.
Thanks!

Get in to the modem, (http://192.168.1.254), click the wireless icon on the main page. When you get there, make sure WPS or wifi protected setup, is off. Then, change the security type to WEP and save that. You'll need the modem password at this point probably, its different from the wireless password, usually labelled "system password" or something like that. Anything connected wireless will need to be reconnected. Some devices don't play well with some versions of the wireless security. Apart from that, could just be the adapter connected to the computer that's causing the issue

Tried all of that, didn't make a difference... Can it be my PC is just too old?

Yes especially if your USB is 1.0 or 2.0 thats not up to spec time and use has a way of changing the value of certain electrical components so they measure differently from new which in turn will be a slight performance hit.

So I was reading about IE8 versus IE9 and Google Chrome, so I said let me try GC...and NOW I'm getting 16mbps!

If your PC is old enough that it only has 802.11B (vice 802.11G) then that may be an issue. Another issue may be interference from other wirless devices. You want to try to scan the wireless channels to see if many other WiFi devices are within range. You should set your RG's WiFi channel to only 1, 6 or 11, whichever has the least congestion. The RG will autosetup to just about any channel, which is just plain stupid.
