(Yes, you can get "HD free for life" on Dish, but I wonder what the caveats are.)
Keep in mind that what APPEARS to be a savings may not necessarily be, especially since Dish can't give you a bundle on your Internet and phone.

Free HD requires auto pay and paperless billing.
You can get the first dual HD DVR for $6/month. It can provide TV service to 2 TV's. The 2nd TV will only receive an SD signal. If you want a 2nd HD DVR, you must pay a one time fee of $99 and $17/month.

Hope you don't like HD, 'cause Dish doesn't have hardly anything compared to Uverse.
And, as this thread was on page one of the forum TODAY when you posted a new thread ... I don't know how you could have completely missed this and read all of the information that's been posted on this since it first came up. Doesn't appear you really wanted to find out what happened, more like just wanted something to gripe about. Since you've already been here, why not actually READ THE ENTIRE THREAD, to find out WHY AT&T moved it up ---- a cost increase from News Corp.
Besides, with U100, the DVR is $15 extra. Moving to U200, with that $10 increase, you GET the DVR included. And, really, to get the best Uverse experience IMHO, you really should have the DVR. (Helps you to watch TV a little "smarter", as well.) ![]()

Dish = Fox News plus ONE DVR = $51... Add another DVR and it's $68 I think... AND paperless billing with Auto Pay... talk about an easy way to sneak in a few extra dollars. You'd REALLY better be on top of your e-mails then!
AT&T = Fox News plus two DVRs = $76. (Throw in $10 for HD, or you can easily get it waived time after time again.)
If my math isn't totally off, you're saving about $7-$8 per month. You'd be saving more money if you don't want that second box to be HD.

I am livid about AT&T deleting FoxNews from the U100 package. Not notice...nothing and then it is gone. I have had this package for years along with the internet, cell phones, and home phone and they treat their long time customers like this. The customer service people say it was a contract dispute with Fox. That is a flat out lie. It was a decision by AT&T to force u100 package subscribers to move to u200 and pay $10.00 a month more. The following is what I responeded with in the CS survey.
AT&T should provide agents with the truth. FoxNews was not removed from the U100 package because of a contract dispute. If it is in the U200 package then it can be in the U100 package. AT&T removed it from the U100 to force people who want FoxNews to pay $10 more a month for the U200 package. I and likely many others was never notified of a change coming nor of any contract dispute. I have had all AT&T services for many, many years and then you have the audacity to treat your customers like this. IT IS TOTALLY UNSATISFACTORY.

$10 per month upgrade is just slightly more than 33 cents a day. Not only will you get Fox News for that 33 cents, but so much more.
As far as no warning, it was posted on this forum site, and I am sure in other places, too, that Fox News was moving to the U200 package as Fox Business News was moving down from U300 down to U200.
Since you are so unhappy now, you should call AT&T Customer Service at 1-800-288-2020. They usually have some type of deal to cut you a break to compensate for the extra $10 you would be paying to upgrade to U200.

Just cause it was posted on this site does not mean customers were notified. When I ordered U100 two years ago, I would have had to go to U400 to get any more channels that
I was interested in. U200 and U300 offered ME nothing. I am not going to pay $10 a month just for FOX. I will go to Direct TV and get more channels that I like for less than U100.

I am not really considering Dish, just DirectTV. I know several people in my neighborhood who have and like DirectTV. I have no need of a DVR.
When I first got U100, I saw nothing in U200 nor U300 to interest me; and I was not going to pay for U400.
As to this forum constituting a notification to customers, please, when did it become a customers responsibility to find out when a seller is changing
what they have been offering. As Clark Howard said; some companies make money by getting more customers; others (ie monopolies) get more
money by squeezing more out of the customers they have. ATT still thinks they are a monopoly.
I wasn't already in this thread, cause I do not come to this site often, I started a thread that was merged into this one. Like I said, it is not my responsibility
to keep up with ATT changes, they should treat their customers better by letting us know directly.![]()

What would you have done differently if you had known prior to January 2nd that Fox News was begin removed from the U100 package and would only be available in the U200 and above packages?

First of all, I may have had a little more respect for ATT. What I am doing now is switching my home phone from Uverse to Nextiva. I have had my business line with them for two years with
little trouble. This will save money and I might have used it to go to U200. Instead I am changing to DirectTV in a couple months when the leaves are on the trees so I can be sure of getting
a good signal year round. I will then change my internet to Charter at 15 mbs for the same price as my 12 meg uverse. I will save a considerable amount for the first 6-12 months with these
changes and still save some after 12 months.

What I would have done is have more time and maybe found even better deals that blow ATT out of the water even more than Nextiva and DirectTV. Do you work for ATT? I see a resemblance in
your attitude.

I too am upset with this change and disappointed with the way it was handled. Without warning FNC is gone and I am faced with upgrading at additional cost to get it back. I just had U-Verse installed 2 months ago and AT&T is squeezing more money out of me already!! I want to understand exactly what is behind this change and will make my decision regarding whether or not to stay with AT&T when the truth is known. All other cable and network news is still available on U100. This just doesn't smell right to me and I suspect there is more than money involved. A previous post suggests FNC required a 20 cent increase per subscriber and AT&T requires 10 bucks from me to cover it ?! I have tried to connect with customer service 3 times but hold times have exceeded my handsets battery life! (I do need a new battery). I have also complained to FNC and hope to hear from them soon.

OK, so you read my post about the increase, but you didn't read carefully enough
Since Uverse has a significantly smaller number of subscribers, News Corp obviously charges more than say with Comcast. And that $0.20 increase was an AVERAGE across ALL providers ---- that means Uverse, Time Warner, Cox, Charter, Comcast, Cablevision, FiOS, etc. etc. So that doesn't mean that AT&T gets charged $0.78 per subscriber, they probably have to pay something closer to $1.00 per subscriber -- because of having only 2 million customers vs. DirecTV with 19 million.
Your math skills are also deficient. For that extra $10, you get (a) the Total Home DVR included, and (b) around 100 extra channels (hence the "U-200" moniker). Try getting the price of $69/month (U-200) with the cable provider in your neighborhood --- Comcast around here has expanded basic (no digital channels) for $55.00 per month (they just raised it) for Fox News Channel, AND charges $17.95 per month for DVR. Maybe you don't have Comcast in your area, but judging by the other big MSOs, those are about the same prices they charge for that level of service and DVR added on.
As was pointed out earlier, $10 extra is about 33 cents a day. I'm sure most people's pocket change at the end of the month would add up to that.

It usually has to do with the contract that was signed at negotiation time. In order for AT&T to keep the channel and pay the price that Fox News demanded they probably had to move it up to a tier that has more subscribers. At least they kept the channel and not dropped it like Hallmark and the NHL Network. They were unable to reach a mutual agreement on those channels and they have gone dark. With the exception of those channels AT&T has done a great job of adding more and more. The U200 will give you about 270 channels including the Fox news you are looking for. Here is a listing of the channels and how it compares. It will also give you a DVR for your package.

No, but each of the last two summers I had tech service come out to replace my diplexor. The second summer it took four visits before they even checked the diplexor. You would have thought
they would have learned from the first summer. Not to mention the time they installed a new RG and plugged in the connections wrong so I had no phone service; and then charge me $55 to
come out and fix the problem they caused.

A couple things. First, you had quoted contract rates on a per subscriber basis which led me to believe that is how they are negotiated and paid. The added discussion about the impact total subscribers has on cost did not square with that presumption. Apparently, contracts are not negotiated on a per subscriber basis. The difference is clear. Second, I understand your point about the added value of U200 beyond FNC. I have looked at U200 and don't value any of the additional channels. Also, I have a DVR and one television and don't value a Total Home DVR. So from my customer perspective, I am faced with spending an additional $120 per year to get FNC back. In addition, it seems to me that parity with other cable news networks and constancy to its customers are extremely important considerations that would preclude a selective, a la carte change like this one. I still suspect there is more to this than money. IMHO, AT&T has made a bad decision.

Moving FNC to U200 does not add subscribers. It may add revenue if U100 subscribers upgrade and will add revenue from new subscibers who require FNC, but FNC viewers on U-Verse may actually decrease if they don't.

Some companies increase revenue by getting more customers; others by squeezing more money out of customers they already have. When other channels have raised subscription fees, ATT has
gone through very public battles by threatening to remove the channel from the liine up entirely. The actions show in this case that ATT was trying to increase revenue; not looking out for their
customers. They still act like they are a monopoly.
