Two questions on the McAfee security available for download through ATT/yahoo.
1. Can it be downloaded and used on more than one machine?
2. Should an existing McAfee be removed before downloading?

yes, but i'm pretty sure you have to download it onto each machine that is hooked up to your network.
and
it comes with it's own removal tool...so it'll remove it on it's own.
remember that it expires about every six months, and you'll have to re-install it again in 6 mos.

I just use free Zone Alarm, MS Security Essentials and MVPS.org Hosts file and have no problems.
Don't see any 3d party ads due to hosts file, pages load faster. ![]()

You should really consider running Microsoft Security Essentials.
For the last 15 years all I have run is Mcafee Enterprise software and beta tested all their retail software. Last month I dumped their software on my three machines and installed security essentials. IT RUNS GREAT Not a resource hog. I am very impressed

The MVPS hosts file is a great addition. I also add some hosts from my local newspaper's site so I don't have to see their ads and distracting moving video junk.

With FF, you can actually right click on ads and video (except flash) and not allow it in the future. ![]()

It is free. You install it direct from AT&T/Yahoo on each computer that is connected to your net. As previously posted.....it will automatically remove existing McAfee app.
I use it on all three of our computers. It updates automatically nearly every day. We have had no problems. Since the McAfee has its own firewall it will automatically turn off the Windows firewall to avoid conflicts. Hard to beat free for something that works so well. IMHO

It's been discontinued by MS when they brought out free Security Essentials, they are 'letting' you
continue w/LiveOne Care until your subscription runs out. They will then tell you to download
Security Essentials and use that. ![]()
Edit: from Wikipedia: "On 18 November 2008, Microsoft announced that Windows Live OneCare would
be discontinued on 30 June 2009 and will instead be offering users a new free anti-malware suite called
Microsoft Security Essentials to be available before then. However, virus definitions and support for
OneCare will continue until a subscription expires."

Live OneCare was a fine service, but as Chris said, it's been discontinued. Not only that, it's incompatible with Windows 7, so if you have OneCare and want to upgrade, you will need to uninstall it.
That being said, the free McAfee suite offered to U-verse subscribers is worth every penny you pay for it.

To get the software provided by AT&T as part of your U-verse service, look here for instructions:
However, I use McAfee's security suite on my office computers (as that is the choice of our corporate IT) and would join others in recommending that you use something else. Microsoft's Home Essentials is one good choice. I have been using AVG as well (version 9 is not the performance hog that version 8 was). Both are free.

I work as tech support for a major software provider and definately do not recommend McAfee. I personally use Microsoft Security Essentials and have recommended it to our customers as well. What better anti-virus to work well with WIndows other than one written by Microsoft.

I had AT&T McAfee and switched to MSE and it is by far is way better IMO. I had a subscribed McAfee for over 5 years then went with the AT&T version but when I got Windows 7 Ultimate MSE found more than McAfee ever came close to, runs better in the background, and uses way less memory.
