Just as a point of interest: Full page ad in this morning's Kansas City Star.....paid for by AT&T/U-verse, Comcast, Direct TV and Time Warner Cable.....states in big block fonts that Dish Network no longer carries FSMidwest, FSKansasCity, FX and National Geographic Channel. Further, the ad states that on November 1st Dish Network customers "could" also lose the local FOX 4 channel. "What good is an empty dish? Don't wait, there are other providers that will give you what you paid for:" the ad says. Then, at the bottom, the logos of the four other providers are displayed.
The ad says "For more information: GetWhatIPaidFor.com" No mention of channels being dropped by these other four providers.

Are you sure the ad isn't being paid for by Fox to put pressure on Dish Network? Fox my have permission from those other TV providers to use their logos in the ad.

All I was doing was quoting from a full page, print ad in the Kansas City Star newspaper. Perhaps it did come from Fox. But those logos and names were certainly not used without permission. I personally did not check that web site address.

One poster says that U-Verse is the only provider taking and keeping channels off of their systems for any length of time.
Yeah right - and the world is flat.

I think SJ only wanted to find out who or what was behind the ad. Thanks for the heads up, Phil.

dhascall is right, I was just clarifying who was behind the ad. This is actually only one part of FOX's campaign to capitalize on the drops of their channels from the Dish lineup. I've also seen TV commercials to this effect.
FOX probably did get permission from the other providers to use their logo, which would make sense. The other providers certainly wouldn't object, since the purpose is to bring disgruntled Dish customers to them.
I just posted the WhoIs information just to confirm that it is indeed FOX's campaign, not a collusion by the other providers.

We had the same full page ad in the "Dallas Morning News" today.

I disagree that this is the ultimate purpose of this ad, though I agree that it is the reason those companies would allow use of their logo.
The utlimate purpose that Fox has in getting this is to increase its number of subscribers through all providers. Short term that is getting subscribers to switch to other providers so that Dish decides to return to the bargaing table and renew its carriage agreement with Fox. Thus, I would argue that the purpose of this ad is to get Dish to negotiate.

Dish Network's clientele is immigrants who want niche international programming, and budget-minded customers
Serious sports fans (including pubs, bars, and restaurants) probably have DirecTV.

37 days of the same line over and over again from you. If U-Verse is such a joke, why are you still a customer? I guess the joke is on you.
You have the right to sign up for any cable or satellite provider. You are not stuck with U-Verse because of a contract you signed.
The solution is for you to get on the phone right now, and sign up with a different provider instead of staying with one that you consider to be a joke.

It's a dog eat dog world when you are a tv provider.
DISH users in my area are also set to lose their local FOX station on 11/01. No 'House'...no 'Bones'.....there'll be tears and sick everywhere! ![]()
