Good luck with your new provider.

I can settle for $3 for the first time in a long time from at&t. Providers do raise their costs for programming, so it was inevitable. But thank god it's not like every year
Besides, if you have U-200 or above you won't see an increase in TV price--just phone.
Good thing I got rid of that

I have the U400 and that is going up by $5 per month. I do not have the Uverse phone service.

Actually if you count AT&T making people buy HD with their 450 package and also the rise in the cost of receivers, they do raise the price every year or less than a year. Personally I will downgrade my package before I will pay AT&T another cent. And as for the phone, I have a 3rd party VOIP company that is cheaper than AT&T and has more features. And it actually works.
I love my UVerse but I hate AT&T as a company. If FIOS was available in my area I would jump ship. Don't mean to sound negative but I hate when people believe AT&T can't do any wrong and spread false information here.

This may be a bad analogy, but take Wal-Mart for example. I will rarely go into that store despite knowing that I can save money vs going to Target. It is worth it to me to pay a little extra.
The $5.00 increase per month for the U-100/family package listed is around $.17 per day. If all things are equal with the competitor here in my area, TWC, than I am going to pay the extra $5.00 a month to stay with AT&T vs TWC.

I understand where you both are coming from. My Uverse phone service is $10 per month. I'll take it. My Uverse tv and internet services were lower than my DTV service. I'll take it. The U300 package is cheaper with more channels than my Comcast package was years ago. I'll take it. Right now I will take the high priced spread at the lowest rate I can get it, no matter who owns it. None of the service providers, grocery chain owners, car manufacturers, etc etc etc. have taken the time to send me a thank you card. Prices go up whether I like it or not, so I am going to strive to pay he least possible. For the goods and services I want. But I ain't mad at either of you for your convictions.

We're grandfathered in, right?
For example, I have the U-200. It's my understanding that as long as I have that, I pay the exact price as when I signed up. If the price of the U-200 goes up, I pay the old price.
Since this affects the U-100 and U-Family only, people with higher packages shoudln't be affected.
I know that NewsCorp is raising their prices with Time Warner. I'm guessing that a similar thing is happening...however, current subscribers should be locked in to their current price.
Bottom line -- Don't sweat this.

From that link:
For customers who subscribed to their current package prior to February 1, 2009, the monthly price for U-family and U100 packages will increase from $44 to $49, U200 will increase from $59 to $64, U300 will increase from $79 to $82, and U400 will increase from $99 to $104.
So... what the heck does this mean?

Except for U300 which is only going up $3. Why the difference?

Even though we're grandfathered in? Is this one of those legal situations where they say that "AT&T can change the rules at any time with or without notice"?

I'm sure ATT would take the extra $2 if you insist on sending it to them.

Were you expecting to always pay the same price for your TV package as long as you had the U-verse service while all other customers are subject to annual price increases?

When I signed up, I thought it worked like this:
I would pay the same amount for as long as I had that package. If I changed my package, i'd pay the current price at the time I changed.
New customers would pay whatever the price was, at the time they signed up.

That is a question I have had rolling around since I saw so many people post about the rate increase. Everything is going up in price.
So obviously, someone doesn't know what they're saying? Sounds like a typical clueless (or "good") salesman, if you ask me.

That would be an interesting feature. I have not seen seen that feature with any of my other previous TV providers. All customers were subject to price increases whether or not they change their programming package.

A DirecTV subscriber told me that his subscription was that way. It would certainly entice a lot of people. I want to say some cell phone providers have this feature, but that's a whole other situation.
...in fact, I don't think my price has gone up, other than the $2 increase on my second box, and I did face the recent U-200 increase of a few months ago since I was a subscriber.
Every once in a while, i'll be offered a U-300 upgrade "free for however many months" and i've never taken it because I know that i'm grandfathered in...obviously, I may want to consider a free upgrade ONLY IF my price WILL be going up.

I was a DirecTV subscriber for 8 years and a Dish Network subscriber for 3 years. My rates were not locked in with either provider. Perhaps something has changed since I left those providers.

Ok... I just checked my bill:
U-200 ............. 59.00
Promo offer...... 10.00 CR - I think this is my "sports pack free for however many months" deal.
The current price is $64.
This actually seems to "jive" with what the customer service people say when I talk to them. They'll mention an offer, i'll decline and say that i'm grandfathered to an older price. They look at that price, and see that I am.
It wouldn't be good customer service to be grandfathered in one time, but not the next time.

As someone else mentioned... it's not that outlandish. I've had the exact same cell phone package since 2002 simply because what I got at the time was awesome, so I make due with it. Whenever my provider tries to get me to change packages, I tell them to look at what I have and tell me if they can provide anything comparable/better... the answer is always "wow - I'd hold onto that too".
That said - I've never seen it with any of the tv providers but DirecTV never increased my rates the 2+ years I had them.
