Boy, I don't like the sound of that. ![]()
If they move 1 HD channel to another specially priced tier, above and beyond what we pay for, what's to stop them from moving many of the other channels we already enjoy in the current packages.
It certainly doesnt sound like a real good move to me. I know, there were some mentions of a survey regarding some of these things, both here and at UU, but it seems a relatively small number of people actually got that survey, at least it seems like that to me.
If I am going to get raked over the coals as far as my TV package and it's pricing are concerned, I at least want to be able to have my say about what I think and I have never gotten any surveys from AT&T other than the ones you get via email after you have called the 800 number.

DirecTv's extra pack $4.99 "HDNet Movies, MGM HD, Palladia, Smithsonian Channel HD and Universal HD"
I would not pay DTV for this and will not pay AT&T either...

Wouldn't they just be moving it to u100? Maybe I'm not understanding the original post correctly. I guess I need a nap.

Universal HD is currently available on all packages, U-Family thru the U-400. If AT&T goes forward with what Alan posted, the only way to get that channel would be to pay extra for that tier above and beyond what we are already paying. ![]()

I doubt it. That's just for the website. They can rollout new channels and add changes to the lineups without down time, but then again, who really knows.

I live in Riverside, CA (for Uverse purposes I get the LA feeds) and I got the postcard today as well. Here's a scan:

Just like the OP, I called AT&T and checked out their website; CS didn't know what the postcard was referring to, as she had no knowledge of an HD Premium Tier. She even placed me on hold and asked some other people. The website also has no mention of it. I'm wondering what other channels they'll be moving, and how much the premium tier will cost. My guess is they're going to have some kind of HD movie package, which would suck. Universal HD is one of the few channels I get that plays HD movies on the u200 plan I have now.Message Edited by waylonrobert on 10-16-2008 08:33 PM
Channels 1104 (Universal HD), 1105 (HDNet), and 1106 (HDNet Movies) are available on all packages, according to when I checked the channel lineup for my zip. Most likely, that is the case all around.
My guess, and that is only MY guess, is that those 3 channels are all going to move to the new tier and if we want them, we will have to pay extra, and that just sux big time. ![]()
Thanks for scanning that card and posting it, even if it isn't good news.

IIRC, one of the surveys in the last few months alluded to their being a tiered HD package in the future. they asked how much I was willing to pay extra for the service and I said Zero.
I wish I had had a chance to at least say that. Never got a survey, but I'm right there Ox. I do not want to pay anymore for it than I already am.

You are going to see some new packages come out soon that will be just for HD channels if thats all you want.
There will also be a premium HD Tier soon, due to the costs of some of the channels.

Thats all I want to hear is "more money". ![]()
So if I have U400 do you actually think they are going to ask me for more money for HD content (ie... it looks as if more HBO channels, cinemax, Encore, showtime etc HD is coming) ... In these times I not about paying more especially if I have their top package.
It will be interesting because I will rid myself U400 to add HD but I will not get into a pay more phase again like I had to go through with another provider.
Be careful AT&T, service is great but if you guys get crazy with prices, then you open up a whole new world of demands that your are still in BETA world with.

I can see AT&T becoming a nickel and dime you to the poor house operation. It’s just entertainment and we pay way to much for it. I don’t know about you but most the time I find myself watching network TV or premium move channels VOD.
I want U100 with premium on demand package. But only after they add more HD VOD.

I'm having a FLASHBACK, to the days of Cable...this is just sad. ![]()
For me, I'll just not worry about buying another HDTV and forget about any HD programming, problem solved, ATT loses $$ because I won't be adding anything HD. ![]()
What happens when one day in the future, ALL programming is HD?

Funny you should say that. I was thinking the same thing!
Well, I figure one of two things will happen spd. We will either be SOL or dead! ![]()
TimS, you watch mostly network TV?? My sympathies to you, but again, to each their own. We watch very few network programs and I try to record most of those. Gotta love being able to FF thru 30 minutes of garbage so you can watch 30 minutes of an actual 1 hour show. ![]()
I am not at all happy with the direction AT&T is headed, but I guess we should all just wait and see how this plays out.

I would probably switch to HD only if it saves a few bucks.

I have seen this before with other companies and find it a bit concerning. If AT&T is mailing around postcards, the front line CS people the postcard tells customers to call should know what this about. Since the postcard also mentions uconnect.att.com, that website should have details, a FAQ, and similar.
Just based on this thread, it is clear the mention of a "HD Premium tier" has customers twitching a bit and while some are suggesting this move may be nothing to be too concerned with, AT&T could and should have done a better job communicating this so there are no misunderstandings.

Indeed!
While I like some of the bundles, AT&T is in a position to have *more* channels than cable due to the differing technologies. If more channels just means new fees tacked onto my bill, the end result will be the same as cable -- continual rate hikes for bundles that include a bunch of channels I have zero interest in.
With AT&T's technology, they should consider changing the business model a bit. Make it so the bundle customers pay for requires logging into a website and selecting a certain number of channels from each tier. I know I could come up with a whole pile of channels I don't watch that I would love to trade for a lesser number of channels in a higher tier.

I assume you pay the $10 HD fee??
So I will take it that I will pay this fee just to have my little blue light (that can be seen a mile away) on. And then pay more for HD content?

I went to the uconnect site and there is nothing at all that I can find about Premium HD service. So I'm not sure what this is all about. Could be interesting.
