I have moved and my last home have uverse dvr. My new home also does, but it is a new account since it had been in a roommates name. Can I watch the shows that were on the old DVR box. How do I do it if I can? Which box do I hook up where? I need very specific details.

You can't just hook your box up and go. It has to be provisioned/Authorized by U-verse. Did you transfer your service or are you using the roommates account?

You can't transfer service with Uverse. You have to close one account and open a new one and get all new equipment.

Thanks!! I never has to move or transfer U-Verse before. Good information to know when I do have to move or whatever.

I don't know why ATT doesn't allow transfering service from one address to another. But then they would have to allow those who don't have to pay stb rentals to kee their grandfathered state. The least they could do is let us connect an external harddrive so we can save our recordings.
Hopefully, they are working to change this and will allow transfering service as well as using an external hd.
Dare to dream.

That stinks.
If you move to another address where U-Verse is available, you should be able to keep your bill, pricing plan, packages, etc. all intact. Just plug in the boxes, get them activated, and voila!

One of the last technicians that visited stated that "getting programs off of the DVR" was the most asked question that he gets. He noted that (if one knew what they were doing) one could get the hard drive out of the DVR and offload the video files to a PC. He shrugged when I noted that may not be legal and /or AT&T may not approve.

I'll bet he shrugged his shoulders. He probably wasn't going to tell you how to do that either.

It won't do any good to offload the content anywhere: The content is encrypted, and requires a key that is partially constituted from information in the U-Verse database and other online resources. The database must be online and available to view the content because it's not a single key fetch, it's a running series.
I am an AT&T employee and the postings on this site are my own and don’t necessarily represent AT&T’s positions, strategies or opinions.

And the one Tier 3 (or Tier 2 and a Half) guy that I talked to about the "Black Screen of Death" (BSOD) stated the same - that the BSOD is thought to be caused by an AT&T server "timing out" when trying to authorize your programming to be able to be watched from yourDVR. Comcast does not have that extra step, or steps. i was able to watch recorded Comcast content while the UV installer was there and after he had disconnected my house from Comcast.
