Over the past month, my Intenret connection has been going out about twice a week. This is a very recent problem and nothing has significantly changed which would explain this. The AT&T box simply shows a red light for connection for a couple of minutes, then returns to normal. Is this a local area problem or is there something I can do to fix this?

Which U-verse gateway do you have?
Is this with both wired and wireless internet connections?
If you have other U-verse services, do you also lose those services?

Don't know which kind of gateway it is. The light goes red on it so it goes off on everything. Also means no TV.
The model number is written on the gateway. If you have U-verse TV, you would have either the 2Wire 3800HGV-B or 3801HGV.
So it appears that it's not an issue with the internet because you lose all U-verse services when the gateway disconnects. Can you download and install SomeJoe's tool at the link below?

Once you install the tool, please post screenshots of the following tabs: IP/Profile, Error Table, Bitloading, & Coax/HPNA.
We can take a look at the screenshots to see if there appears that you might be an issue with your system.
