If you like me, really, really miss this feature, post a comment here- if we get a lot of interest, perhaps ATT will notice and get this feature added.

Auto tune is a feature so you can set it and it will automatically change to that channel at a certain time.
I'd prefer auto reminder where a little bar pops up to remind you about a program you had wanted to watch is coming up.

never had it so I don't miss it. It really doesn't seem to be something that I would want. If I am not interested enough in a show to change the channel to watch it, I am not really interested in that show.

Never had it, either, with Comcast. On the cable boxes, "auto tune" was a setting where if you entered "2" instead of "002", the box would automatically tune to channel 2 -- it basically completed the command.
If this is one of those "satellite exclusives", how does this work when the DVR is recording and another recording is scheduled to start? There are only 2 tuners, so if one's in use already, and another is going to start, BUT you have that auto-tune scheduled, does it just delete your scheduled recording? Or is this some kind of super feature for those who don't have or use DVR?
I can think of a LOT more higher priority features that should be programmed above this:
* Turn OFF the screensaver, let the DVR be "ON" all the time, get rid of the "Energy Star" crud's interference
* Frame-advance FF/REW, slow-motion
* Improved search functions, by "movies", "sports", and sub-categories, like the cableco's iGuide software
* Flipbar option of "Watch in HD" autotune button if tuning to SD channel (hit "OK" and would go to HD channel)
* Colored EPG, with Movies in purple, Sports in green, Kids in light blue
* "LIVE" designation in the EPG program descriptions, and the option when setting a recording of that to extend to 30+ minutes
* Categories applied to programs, like "Football" for sports or "Comedy" for movies ... once again, like what the cablecos already have their EPGs doing
* Allow the (A) (B) and (C) remote buttons to be programmed with macros for shortcuts (like others do)
* Allow the use of the arrows surrounding the "OK/Select" buttons on the remote for playing recordings and live TV buffer with STOP, FF, REW, and PAUSE.
* Allow one of the macro buttons to be programmed for forwarding the buffer to live TV, like on other remotes
* Put a function on the "ENTER/ZOOM" menu to SWAP between your main stream if recording and another stream that is recording (like swapping between two sport games going on at the same time) instead of using LAST or punching in the channel number
* Turn the On Demand and DVR channels into "virtual ones", where if the program ends or somehow gets interrupted, it exits out of those functions back to the main menu of that function, and then after a timeout period, returns to the last channel you were tuned to
Just a few of the ways Uverse does NOT take what cable does and goes one better, that would be better changes/additions IMHO than a function that changes channels for you. I thought that's what the remote was for, to begin with?

I actually would love an auto-tune / reminder style feature. It should not be too hard to implement and it has been a contsant feature request over the 3 years that i have been on this forum.
As well, I would like some interactive screen to appear when all four streams are aboit to be used, which would 1) warn you ahead of time and 2) allow you to tune in to one of the streams ahead of time. I called this "the two minute warning," in another post.

Is it a "must have" no, would it be "nice to have" feature, yes. I hardly watch programs when they are airing anyway so it's not a big deal.

I don't see how a feature like this could work in the Uverse IPTV, since there is a lot more reliance on the DVR to be the "hub" of the system. What feeds/streams are going into the DVR have a priority over what goes to the STBs that are connected. Therefore, if 3 recordings are scheduled, those three streams are prioritized to go to the DVR, the last one to go to whatever box is using a live one. If all four are taken, and you turn on another STB or the DVR itself, you get the message that "All TV is used up."
The IPTV is set up for 4 streams, and that's all. Technically, you "max out" the system at three additional STBs, if all are on at the same time, watching separate channels. The minute a recording would creep into that mix, one of the STBs goes dark, unless it's tuned to that channel being recorded.
So let's throw Auto Tune into this mix. Setup is one DVR, three STBs, all are active on different channels, no recording = 4 streams. It's 7:55pm, and DVR is scheduled to record from 8-9pm, but STB3 has an AutoTune at 8pm to go from A&E currently to FOX. At 7:59pm, STB3 is booted from the stream list, recording starts. At 8pm, AutoTune tries to change channel, but since that stream is already gone, there's nothing to tune to. So what happens then? ALL TVs get the "All TV in use" message? Because if AutoTune is given some level of second-priority, then that means since it can't perform its actions on the STB that set it, it moves to the next STB up the list -- STB2. So whoever is watching that box gets their channel changed? Or it's given enough priority to override a recording?
This AutoTune is basically what has been on cable boxes for years -- to change the channel for VCR recording. And that had been the workaround if you kept the TV on all night, falling asleep to Jay Leno, but wanting to wake up to GMA. It still works perfectly on the cable and satellite platforms because each STB has full access to everything independent from each other. It's why you can have how ever many DVRs you want on a cable system, and the same with STBs --- they all work independently from each other.
Not saying it couldn't necessarily work, so don't get all worked up. IMHO, for this feature to get activated, something from Phase 3 and the interactivity with the DVR would need to go -- pause/control live TV at an STB would probably be the easiest. After all, the new MoCA cable "total home" DVR setup is basically that right now, but without the ability to delete or set new recordings at a non-DVR location. Not a really good selling point when it comes to Uverse over their competition, up against its other limitations. If you put the two on the marketing scales, having a minor edge over the cable guys will naturally win out.

I have no need for it as I record all prime time as I work afternoons, but even then I would rather set up a recording then have it tune from something else I was watching that I did not want to leave. ![]()

That is why it would have to be an optional feature, like Favorites. I still like my "two minute warning" idea for when the DVR knows that thetre are too many streams about to recorded PLUS the one that you are watching.

YES, YES, YES..!!
Not all viewing is done by DVR for later digestion - this has been a standard feature of all systems since DISH first introduced [nearly 20 years ago] and Adelphia (acquired by Comcast) was a twinkle in some corporate fathers's eye (the feature usually begins with a 2-3 minute warning of the execution with any possible conflicts insuing and a choice to override or accept the upcoming event - a priority event schedule settles any conflict if you do not act).
Additionally, Uverse needs to examine the competition's interface and features and get past their Version 1.1 interface... most of the competition is at Version 3.3.4. Multiple Customized Favorites needs to be added also. Their are many good recoomendations on this thread that need to be investigated and incorporated.
By the way, "Local Stations" should include the local network affiliates.
These features might just be my lack of knowledge... I've only had my system for 10 minutes and I'm begining to hate it already (requires 3 to 6 more button pushes to get where others are with just 1 or 2 buttons) - I may exercise my cancellation clause in another hour and keep DISH - I'll never go to DIRECT.
I now know why I could not find any operational information on the ATT site before signing up.
Com'on MA Bell... get with it... you have not had a good idea and product feature set since you changed your phone's name from Western Electric.

Please add this as a feature. I really appreciated having this option as a Dish Network user and although exttremely happy with U-Verse was disappointed to see that this was not an option.

Let AT&T know - Try contacting Alex, one of the AT&T Community Managers and ask him to pass it along.

I am very satisfied except for the lack of auto-tune. Actually, I thought it was a standard feature everywhere. I do miss that feature and check the forums often to see if there is any word on AT&T finally adding this feature.
