Is att blocking Xbox live?

Internet works fine right up until I turn on my xbox 360, the modem immediately starts the blinking red lights and the modem page tells me it is no longer syncronized with the dsl network. After turning off the Xbox 360 the dsl will come back on after a few minutes or immediately if i restart the modem.

This probably indicates a power problem with the XBox or it's power adapter. Noisy or malfunctioning electrical devices can cause DSL to go down.

Try using a good surge suppressor/protector on the XBox, the modem, or both. If that doesn't work, see if you can swap the power supply for the XBox and try again.

plugged the 360 into the wall outlet instead of my surge protector and the network now works perfectly. Thank you.

Yup, you have a bad surge protector. Toss that one and replace it, I recommend the Tripp-Lite IsoBar series.
