Just back to UVerse, can't get anything wireless to work

Just arrived back to AT&T and hooked up the gateway, internet hardwired to the computer works fine PROBLEM BEING...
I can't connect anything wirelessly (ex: my smartphone, Playstation 3, logitech squeezebox) - all say no access point detected or out of range.
I've only changed the most basic of settings including disabling SSID broadcast (I did change the name however), system password and I checked MAC FILTERING and already inserted those addresses in the filtering blanks. Comcast was basically plug and play. What am I missing here?
My logitech squeezebox shows 0% wireless signal, PS3 doesn't detect one at all, and samsung galaxy says I'm out of range. I've tried scanning for the SSID & entering it manuall and no go.
Tech support via the phone was little help, they connected me to pay support and while I'm came back to AT&T on a promo I'll go right back to Comcast if I can't get this worked out.
Any help you all could provide would be appreciated.

Which U-verse gateway do you have?

Just so you know, disabling the SSID broadcast basically means that your devices won't be able to scan for the SSID. That's the whole point, after all. You could set all your devices up and then disable SSID so others can't find your network so easily.

Having another one shipped to me and should be here shortly. In order to get wireless on the RG do I have to do anything out of the ordinary to get wireless to work?
I've read online that I might have to change the default wireless channel? For example Ch. 6 to 11? Is this the case.
I'm hoping the first unit I had was just bad. I know with Comcast the Medialink router and SB6120 I purchased on my own were super easy to setup. Basically just plug 'em in and go.
