for those that HAD Comcast you can see the differentence between Comcast & Uverse.ok, all 48-72 hrs after installation lets start a comparision of U verse & Directv & which is offereing, note, I have been a Directv customer for 9-10 yrs but I feel No loyality toward DTV any longer.also I have EVERYTHING, (every phone option) with AT&T except U verse & networking) & paying for a friends dsl elite besides my own,
Sure looks like AT&T has done something no other company has been able to do,
1,Get me away from Directv,
2, Have ALL my communication needs (except networking) IF u verse is as good as this first 48-72 hrs, I'll stay with them.
this comparision will be the same as when I switched from Time Warner cable/now Comcast to Directv So lets compare packages, prices, features,
The reason for my leaving,I was paying $65.62 03/22/08 - 04/10/2008 $83.57
fine,I don't mind any company raising the prices I can deal with that,
but what really made me mad,MY HBO only service was shut off,
On April 01
,Directv without prior notice or even an option(think Directv was trying to say something -April Fools day) well I'am not laughing
also in 9-10 yrs, (sure others have noticed it also) that DTV wants you to abide by the contract you agreed to, but they feel they don't have to & can raise prices whenever they feel like it, well I have had just about enough, I have suspended my account for 30 days & may MAKE IT PERMANT with them
==========================================
So lets look & compare the 2 services,
(all prices rounded off)
My directv package TOTAL CHOICE PLUS Monthly 55.00
new price (upgrade to top of the line "The Works" ) 87.00
DVR 1 time payment for delivery$199.00 -save $100.00
Didn't matter month to month or contract
DVR 1 time payment for delivery 99.00 (never knew what a DVR was or Video on Demand service was UNTIL Uverse introduced me to it, DTV never even suggested this service)
Protection Plan Monthly 6.00
DIRECTV HD EXTRA PACK 5.00
HD Access 10.00
Adjustments & Credits
10.00 until 10/08=============
keeping same "grandfathered" packag and getting a dvr,$ 165.00 per month
OR NEW PACKAGE & dvr $ 207.00 plus tax per month
PLUS
DSL "Elite" Internet *** plz see additional notes below==================================================
UveUverse service,
U 300 package MY PACKAGE
Up to 260 channels including
ALL HBO,SHOWTIME®, Starz®, Encore®, The Movie Channel (TMC)™ and FLIX®.
100% Free DVR
,and Videos on DemandHD package & channels FREE
High Speed Internet Express "Elite"
with wireless home networking capability Free
100% Delivered Free DVR, $109.00 per month
==================================================
***Directv, while the features of Direct Tv (on screen tv guide) allows you to look (say from 6pm -7:30pm)
Uverse allows you to ONLY look (say 6pm to 7pm)
as far as picture quality, both are the same
Directv does have or offers more HD Channels, they also CHARGE you for access to HD, then Charge you for the HD channels themselves
my dvd/vcr combo unit records or burns in SD only,so HD is not that big a factor
( Standard Definition tv) If I see a picture of a dog I see a dog,thats fine
(High Definition tv) I see a picture of a dog with a tick on the dog, & the flea has a pimple on its left rear cheek)
So looks like AT&T

Direct TV is better. AT&T U-verse boxes (receivers) turn off after a few hours. If you program your VCR/DVD recorder to record shows while you're away or sleeping, the receiver turns off automatically (goes into stand by mode) and nothing is recorded or it is only partially recorded. You'll just end up with blue screen instead of the show you wanted
I've never had this on any of my receivers. They have never turned off or missed a recording.

This must be the new cableTV/Sat provider marketing talking points. It's not mentioned much, if at all, for months & months, then suddently, on (at least) two forums, there's a couple posts from new posters, with virtually the same verbiage.
First it was "U-Verse Sux," then it was "the DVR sux," ... {several other topics, including the stinkin' "Local on the Eights"}, now this ...

I have had U-VERSE since 02/08,and have never had our DVR not record what we programmed in,even if we have been gone for a week or two.

If this isn't trolling, I *think* what he/she is trying to say is they have an external PVR/VCR connected up to the service and that is where the problem is occurring.
... then again I'm not sure why they would want to do that.

Simply NOT true. We record a lot. Much of my recording is of stuff that runs during very late hours or during the early daytime when we are not at home. We have NEVER missed a recording for the reasons you state.

I am very unhappy with UVERSE Cable TV due to their antequated receiver boxes. The main reason is because for the past 20 years I have woken up each morning with my TV Alarm clock to the news. With UVERSE's receivers, the receiver automatically shuts off and goes into sleep mode if you don't use the TV within 4-8 hours. I spent extra money on my TV to ensure that it had a built in alarm clock, but because AT&T's receiver automatically goes into sleep mode, the only thing that pops on in the morning is a "blue" screen. I am unable to gradually wake up because I can't listen to the news. Can anyone help me with a solution for this problem? At&t should allow each end user to be able to program the receiver with regard to the sleep mode (i.e., 4 hours, 8 hours, 10 hours, etc.).

I have both Uverse and Direc..
Dvrs are very similar..
However I give a slight edge to Cisco machines.
Faster guide.
However stream on direc tv not an issue
Edge-even
HD
While Uverse has improved big time regarding HD picture
Direc tv is still the best HD pitcture ive seen to date.
Edge Direc tv
Movies Channels
No contest
Uverse blows Direc out of the water.
Edge Uverse
Sports channels
Direc excells in this area.
NFL and NHL packages cant be beat
No contest
Edge Direc tv
Vod
Uverse by a long shot
You have to download content
in order to watch it on direc vod.
Edge Uverse
Pricing\customer service
Direc tv use to be gold standard. Not anymore.
They have lost their focus on customer service.
Att has been top rate all the way.
Pricing for Uverse is excellent.
Especialy if you bundle your services together.
Direc has become overpriced.
Edge: Uverse
So I give Uverse a 3-2 nod over direc tv.
I keep direc tv for sports packages. As a former New Yorker
living in Florida I want to catch my Jets and Rangers..
Plus I love watching the major tennis tournaments.
They show several courts in HD at one time. love that.

In his case this is very true. If one is using a separate DVD recorder / VCR / TiVo, the STB time out feature will leave them recording a blue screen.

Missed a few major points
Direct2PC play any recorded program on any hardware qualified PC that is connected -
MRV w/ DECA - new technology rolling out, cost 3.00 a month for the household, view any show recorded on any dvr attached to any TV in the household. Currenlty in limited distribution test markets. DECA is communication between teh dvr's via the coax cable connect, also has a dongle that splits it to your internet conection.
Expandable storage space on the DVR's
As far as Customer Service goes, rate both ATT and Directv exactly the same, have had idiot customer service reps from both providers, although recently Directv's people seem to be pulling ahead as far as service goes.

Good pickup...I did miss those.
However, I think the whole house direc dvr is very similar to Uverse.
But, correct me if im wrong, you still need an internet connection with direc dvrs to watch same recording in all rooms?
Thats how it worked for me when It was beta testing.
I guess it comes down to which customer service rep does a better job handling your needs.
For me Uverse has been great! Direc not so much this past year. As a matter of fact they are dead last in my experience. They prommised me certain promotions since I got both NFL and Center ice. In short they renegged
on their word.
So, to me, trust is out the window.
But this appears to be a trend for direc. Since their head honcho left the company they have been somewhat
rutterless..

I'd like to add a new wrinkle:
I have 6 boxes, and up 6 tv watchers at any given time on Uverse (swindeled from Direct TV)
- Uverse - 4 total programs can be watched simultaneously (excluding any recordings going ont at the same time). Only 2 of those can be HD (which is 2 of my boxes).
- Direct TV - Watch anything on any box.
I will gladly trade my 4 recording potential on Uverse for my 6 simultaneous programs on DTV if it wouldn't cost me so much up front to switch back.
Not to mention DTV would cost me $30 less.

I've read your other posts. Did you ask if you could watch 6 TV's at one time? Swindeled huh. You won't get much sympathy from other users for not doing your home work. You get 4 streams to use as you see fit. Record, watch, but you can only watch the 5th and 6th TV if someone is not watching TV on 2 of TV's 1, 2, 3 or 4. Man that's a LOT of TV's!!! Now don't tell me they are all HD!!
