EST can be used to denote the time standard in effect at the time, daylight savings or not, not
commonly used, but is correct, especially now that there are no Eastern time zone areas not
on daylight time.
You see this used on many business websites so that they don't have to have 2 time listings
for CS, etc.![]()

I watched the free preview, even though I'm not a big NFL fan. It is interesting to watch the games covered like that, however. Definitely more action to watch, especially if you don't really have a favorite team.
Unfortunately, it was presented in the standard U-Verse over-compressed HD, which at this time I will name:
MosaicVision™. Bringing our U-Verse Members the Best in Digital Artifacts.

Well put, but on a serious note, ATT should really somehow address the compression issues. It's not a deal breaker for me at the moment cause ATT is cheaper than the alternatives, but I bet the number of subscribers would increase with improved picture quality, and that would mean more negotiating leverage.

They should, but I just don't know how much more sophisticated the compression can get at 6 Mbps. You can tweak the encoders until the cows come home, but 1080i/30 being shoved through 6 Mbps has an upper limit to the quality that just can't be overcome.
It's not a deal breaker for me either -- I'm happy with the U-Verse package I have. But for me, it's preventing AT&T from getting money that I now spend on Blu-Ray discs or Netflix rental. I have U200 and won't be ordering any higher package, and I have never ordered a PPV/VOD from U-Verse, and won't until the quality comes up. If I'm going to sit down and watch a 2 hour movie, it better be in pristine quality, and U-Verse isn't delivering that (yet).

I think they were hoping that people who enjoyed it during the morning (west coast time) games would sign up to get the late games almost as an impulse buy. If they had it on for free all day, viewers would have 7 days to order it which is a long time to remember that you want it and gives you plenty of time to change your mind
Ding!
The free preview was offered by the channel, NOT AT&T.

I liked the preview, I already pay for HD and the sports tier. Don't get me wrong , I'd switch back and fourth to it all day Sunday if I had it. The premium HD tier doesn't interest me other than this channel though. Another ploy to get 5$ out of the sports fans! Bunch of garbage it should be on the sports tier IMO.
You (and others)
The Sports tier is a bunch of SD channels. If the Sports tier has the appropriate HD channel in your area (and you pay for HD programming), then you'll get the appropriate HD equivalent.
The HD premium tier is a bunch of channels that don't have a SD equivalent. In addition, it is quite possible that these channels cost AT&T so much to carry that they're merely passing along the charges to the consumer.
It is always possible to sign up for whatever channel(s) as you wish and cancel immediately after the time ends. Sign up for HD premium right as the first games kick off and cancel immediately after the final games end.

But really, how many people can see the difference.
It looked pretty **bleep** good on my TV and I didn't even run the HDNet test McGillicutty.

If you look through the threads and posts here, I'd say there's a lot of people who can see the difference.
The HDNet test and adjustments can give an overall improvement to the picture, but it cannot eliminate the compression artifacts.

The difference is obvious especially with this channel. Its probably one of the worst looking HD channels U-Verse has to offer. They must have put this one through double compression.

The quality of the signal U-Verse has for NFL RedZone is not as much a problem of UV as it is the NFL Network. Is it me or has anyone else noticed that some of the feeds are excellent and others are garbage? This is an indicator that the input signal the NFL is receiving from the venues and passing on to it's customers is the issue. I can definitely see a difference between the "FOX" feeds over the games carried on "CBS" .. there even is a visable difference between the different regional feeds from CBS (and carried on RedZone)... it's definitely annoying when you're watching a very good picture, then RedZone jumps over to another game with a horrible signal. I highly doubt this is a UV problem.. as the old adage goes, "garbage in, garbage out." IMHO. As a fantasy football fanatic, this channel is dream.. good picture or bad.
Good observations!
To be honest, I was not at home during the three or so hour freebie BUT since there are HUGE differences between various game feeds and probably will be for years to come, why not have the NFL make it a SD channel? and maybe AT&T could put it in the Sports package, too......
