As I understand it starting next Monday we get NASA TV.
My read of the various news articles (which are all based on the official AT&T press release I'm sure) is clear that a bunch of HD channels are being added on November 3. It also mentions November 10 for some things like the HD Premium Tier. In the paragragh where NASA TV is mentioned it vaguely mentions "As part of this month's expansion", so it isn't clear if they mean November 3, November 10, or sometime in November.
In any event, it looks like NASA TV has finally arrived to U-verse!

I am in the Kansas City area and the wait for NASA TV is nearly over. They have assigned channel 264 to NASA TV but aren't delivering a signal yet.
Congratulations to all of us that have hounded AT&T U-verse for this great channel addition.

That seems odd to me. The NASA Channel is free to carry and while I understand AT&T needs infrastructure to carry every channel it adds and that costs money, the NASA Channel seems better suited for U-Family or U100. U300/400 is mainly for premium channels, not things like this!

No offense, but I had to go check this for myself and sure enough, the channel listing on the web says the NASA Channel is just for U300 and U400. I hope it is just an error someone made when inputting it. It doesn't make much sense to me.

I have the channel numbers after a reboot, and NASA says that the service will be available soon, and I have U-200. All the other new ones that I am not subscribed tell me that I am not subscribed to this channel. So maybe (hopefully) that is just an error on their webpage. If NASA is free to carry, why should they charge extra for it?
If it's not an error, then I guess I won't be getting NASA. I'm paying enough now as it is! No way am I upgrading to U-300.

Just looked on my pip browser for NASA and it came up as just the grey TV screen meaning not subscribed on u200, all the other except FBN and Outdoor (they are same as NASA) are saying 'coming soon'. Looks like NASA is u300 or higher, this is BS as it should start on u100 and up and most every other carrier gives it on all packages. ![]()
Chris
I want FSN Detroit HD (all local sports HD), , Speed HD, Travel HD & Weather Chan. HD all coming soon! MGM HD(not for $5 more)
Good weather w/radar & 6 day forecast -coming soon!
Please NO SD stretch-o-vision HD Channels

Chris
I disagree that this should be on the U100 and up packages. To me, this is a niche channel that most people subscribing to U-Verse could care less about, just like some of the sports channels like Fox Soccer or Hallmark Movie Channel. My old carrier, comcast, dropped this channel several years ago. They didn't move it to a digitial tier, they completely got rid of it from our system.
Just be thankful that it is being offered to U-Verse subscribers.

The thing is, NASA TV is very close to being a public access-type channel, like PBS. It is government-owned, which means the people paid for it through their taxes. NASA is not charging AT&T anything for providing the feed from this channel. AT&T's decision to put it on a more expensive package smacks of corporate greed. It's got nothing to do with how many people want the channel or how many would watch it -- the people own it already, why do they have to pay for it again?

Like you said, it's greed. That's all there is to it.
I guess I won't be getting this channel, then. I would like to have it, but I certainly am not upgrading to U-300 to get it! AT&T can keep this one!

Backfired??? Go back several months and review our commentary. You will not read once where I or any others asked U-Verse to "please put the NASA Channel onto a venue to which we don't subscribe." If NASA TV is not offered to common viewers, it is a very cruel joke, a slap in the face, to those whose efforts rose this concern in the first place.
I certainly hope you are wrong about your comment.

Well I guess demand is money in their pockets. Makes sense from a business standpoint I suppose, but doesn't mean I have to like it.

I agree.
Stupid move.
NASA is a free-to-air channel. Everyone should get it.

Dear Net Czar:
Well, good. And remember, if you wish to communicate an important thought for others to understand, you may try harder to clearly express them ...
Like this: We want AT&T U-Verse to make NASA-TV available to all viewers. We don't want it placed into the hi-end subscriptions (e.g. U-300 and U-400) where we and most others cannot view them. Even better, please place it into U-100 where it is available to all.
Thank you.
