Tonight, I watched live coverage of the Phoenix Lander safely landing on Mars. I saw the first images of its solar panels deployed and some imagery of the surface. It was exciting. Unfortunately, seen not on AT&T U-Verse, but on my laptop. More images are due Monday morning.
The Space Shuttle will be departing May 31st for the ISS. This mission will add another segment to the station and will be exciting also.
If you miss watching these on your TV set as many of us did when we were subscribing to other providers, please send yet another note thru this forum to let U-Verse execs know how badly we want (and miss) NASA TV in our TV viewing.
Thanks, John
The Science Channel, carried by U-verse, had a two hour special showing the landing of the Phoenix. This includes Science Channel HD. I missed the original broadcast but caught some of the replay shown at 10PM CT.

Thanks, I will take a look at it.
I prefer the complete package, because they have so many types of programming on NASA TV.

the link contains all the information necessary to receive the free NASA TV channel.
The channel has been provided by our government at our expense; let's use this tremendous resource.
Not only do all the teckies in the world love it but it is an awesome provider of educational material for teachers everywhere.
Please consider this request. Please forward to those that can make it happen.

Spokeswoman Sara Hammond says a mission update posted Friday was replaced with a hacker's signature and a link redirecting visitors to an overseas Web site.
Hammond says the site hosted by the University of Arizona has been taken off line while computer experts work to correct the problem.
The Mars Lander vehicle touched down on the Red Planet last Sunday to search for traces of organic compounds that are the basic building blocks of life.

A perfect launch on Dish NASA channel. A least something for the $21/mo till termination penalty is up.

HD Net had great launch coverage and the picture was amazing (DISH NASA is NOT HD). From the T-9 hold to the external fuel tank drop plus lots of other prelaunch footage.

I just switched to U-Verse this week and was disappointed there is no NASA channel. I didn't get it with Comcast either, but I was certainly hoping I could get it on my TV rather than streaming it in a tiny window on my computer from NASA's website.
NASA & NASA-HD would be a wonderful addition, particularly in light of the upcoming shuttle mission to repair the Hubble Space Telescope.

I have been trying, without apparent success, to raise awareness to this (no NASA Channel) issue for about nine months. There are also many other U-Verse customers who have expressed this concern. However, because this forum provides no responses, we cannot know if / when the NASA TV Channel will be added to the list. This is a frustrating, because NASA TV provides such fine, leading-egde, scientific, educational viewing.
To put it another way, yes, U-Verse provides us plenty entertainment choices, however, some of us like to add a little science to that mix. I hope our voices are eventually heard.

AT&T folks not commenting on things like this is pretty typical -- of any company I think. When they post about future capability, those words get picked apart, sometimes even exaggerated in customer's minds, and treated as an ironclad commitment. Those employees that do post are usually trained pretty carefully about what they can/cannot say and unfortunately for customers, we end up feeling a bit in the dark.
I do expect that AT&T is reading and taking stock in what customers are asking for. Forums tend to be a little unrepresentative of the entire customer base (people tend to post more when upset, angry, etc. than when they are perfectly happy), but I think it's clear from this thread and the several I have seen just like it that the NASA Channel is a pretty common request.

I sent an e-mail requesting the addition of the NASA TV channel and I received an "auto reply" message that did not address my request. I think they have re-invented the phrase generator from the eighties - not much sense in the reply.
Anyway I responded with a more direct request and I'll post their response if I receive any.

Since it sounds like NASA gives its TV feeds away for free, the only thing that could be holding AT&T back from offering this is that I can think of is beauracracy. I'm sure there are technical aspects to rolling out a new channel for U-Verse, but this seems like an opportunity for AT&T to shine. From what I've seen, many Cable TV systems do not have the NASA channel (except maybe in Florida or Texas) because it is an easy thing to cut from the lineup in favor of other things to use their bandwidth. The technology behind U-Verse is different and should easily be able to support this addition as I understand it.

NASA TV is no harder to roll out than anything else they have rolled out. I think the problem is one of marketing perception: NASA TV is not viewed as being entertaining or sexy as mainstream viewing, therefore they will not host it. However, I often surf thru the channels, and there are several inane, extremely lame selections on the current channel list. If they view the hits on these channels, they may find one that can go and almost no one would notice.
One thing they will discover - people who are interested in science and the ongoing space program do know how to read and write comments to blog sites ...

I would agree more if we were talking about cable tv where they have to make more tough choices. I thought the whole thing with the technology behind U-Verse was that finding bandwith to push another channel down an already full pipe wasn't an issue since only channels being viewed use bandwidth?
I figure this is more that NASA TV is viewed as a low viewship channel and it just has a lower priority for them to do what they need to do to add it.
Note that the mission to service the Hubble Space Telescope is coming up and that would be a good time for AT&T to be able to tout its superior technology.

They still need to dedicate some receiving and encoding resources to the channel should they decide to carry it.
I would also like to see this channel added. Psst, AT&T - You offer U-verse service to lots of NASA/JPL employees in the socal area. ![]()
