We just installed a computer in the same room as the TV and want to know if the network connection on the back of the cable box is internet that I can run a network cable from the cable box to the computer. If it is possible do I only need the cable or something else I would need to purchase. Thanks for your time.

The network connections on my DVR ad STB's connect the boxes to the RG (residential gateway using Cat5 cable.
I don't know if you can directly connect a computer to this connection.
If your computer has wireless capabllity you can connect to the RG wireless.

If your STB is using te coax connection for TV, then yes, you can connect a computer or other Ethernet device to the port on the back and get Internet services.
AT&T does not support this, because the internal networking components of the STB are now bridging packets between coax and Cat5, and this can impact STB performance. Most people do not notice a problem, but it can happen.
