New Carriage Agreements Expiring

Just to keep everyone informed,  here are the latest carriage agreements expiring posted on the website below:

December 20, 2011

AT&T's contracts with programmers for the content displayed on our U-verse TV service periodically expire, but are usually re-negotiated or extended with no interruption or change for our U-verse members. The current contract(s) for the programming indicated below will expire soon, and AT&T is making every effort to reach a fair agreement to continue carriage. However, if a reasonable agreement cannot be reached with such programmer(s), we will no longer have the rights to carry their programming on U-verse TV as indicated below:

January 31, 2012:

The impacted channels are Estrella (channel 3024), ROOT Sports Northwest (channel 1764), ROOT Sports Pittsburgh (channel 1730), ROOT Sports Rocky Mountain (Channel 1760).

February 2012:

The impacted channels are ION East (channel 195), ION Life (channel 468), and qubo (channel 328 and channel 3061).

In addition the impacted local channels include: 

(1) For Alabama, in the Birmingham area, WPXH (channel 44 and 1044 in HD); 

(2) For California, in the Los Angeles area, KPXN (channel 30 and 1030 in HD); in the Sacramento area, KSPX (channel 29 and 1029 in HD); and in the San Francisco area, KKPX (channel 65 and 1065 in HD);

(3) For Connecticut, in the Harford area, WHPX (channel 26 and 1026 in HD);

(4) For Florida, in the Jacksonville area, WPXC (channel 21 and 1021 in HD); in the Miami area, WPXM (channel 35 and 1035 in HD); in the Orlando area, WOPX (channel 56 and 1056 in HD); and in the West Palm Beach area, WPXP (channel 67 and 1067 in HD); 

(5) For Georgia, in the Atlanta area, WPXA (channel 14 and 1014 in HD);

(6) For Illinois, in the Chicago area, WCPX (channel 38 and 1038 in HD);

(7) For Indiana, in the Indianapolis area, WIPX (channel 63 and 1063 in HD);

(8) For Louisiana, in the New Orleans area, WPXL (channel 49);

(9) For Michigan, in the Detroit area, WPXD (channel 31 and 1031 in HD); and in the Grand Rapids area, WZPX (channel 43 and 1043 in HD);

(10) For Missouri, in the Kansas City area, WPXE (channel 55 and 1055 in HD), and KPXE (channel 50 and 1050 in HD);

(11) For New York, in the New York City area, WPXN (channel 31 and 1031 in HD);

(12) For North Carolina, in the Raleigh area, WRPX (channel 47 and 1047 in HD); and in the Greensboro area, WGPX

(16 and 1016 in HD);

(13) For Ohio, in the Cleveland-Akron (Canton) areas, WVPX (channel 23 and 1023 in HD);

(14) For Oklahoma, in the Oklahoma City area, KOPX (channel 62 and 1062 in HD); and in the Tulsa area, KTPX (channel 44 and 1044 in HD);

(15) For Tennessee, in the Knoxville area, WPXK (channel 54 and 1054 in HD); in the Memphis area, WPXX (channel 50 and 1050 in HD); and in the Nashville area, WNPX (channel 28 and 1028 in HD);

(16) For Texas, in the Dallas-Fort Worth areas, KPXD (channel 68 and 1068 in HD); in the Houston area, KPXB (channel 49 and 1049 in HD); and in the San Antonio area, KPXL (channel 26 and 1026 in HD).

Looks like the Febuary stuff is all ION, Qubo and the local affiliates that show the programming as well.  I know 49 in Houston is the OTA ION channel.

All of the local stations have PX in their call letters; I am assuming they were Pax stations (which became Ion a few years ago, if I remember correctly) and are owned by Ion.

For some reason, not all of the Ion-owned stations are included; for example, KPPH in Phoenix, and KPXC in Denver.

I think Qubo and Ion Life will end up staying on U-Verse has done a good job in keeping those its not like Crown Media or NHL which are hard company's to deal with oh boy let the hysteria begin U-Verse got the Viacom deal settled we have had no problems here .

WPXA here in Georgia is channel i really don't watch I can't believe we have to go through all this again but i think everything will be fine .

At least its only a couple of channels and few sports channels this time i think U-Verse should have no problem in coming to a deal .

I don't think you'll see any hysteria. The potential loss of a few sports channels that show a lot of the same things as the FOX sports channels and ION stuff will not generate nearly the same buzz as Viacom's essential channels and major network channels.

Which channel(s) does Direct TV own?

I think DirecTV owns the ROOT Sports channels that are up for renewal by January 31. But aren't DirecTV and AT&T partners of a sort in that some bundle packages with AT&T's internet and voice services come with DirecTV (where U-Verse TV isn't available I guess)? That makes a new deal pretty likely.

AT&T is a "shareholder" in DirecTV. I put that in quotes because they'll tell you they have nothing to do with DirecTV, but if you look carefully, you can see a different picture.

Keep in mind that DirecTV has to pay News Corp for the FSN content they broadcast. It gets a little complicated in the back and forth, but DirecTV has to act as a programming provider, so they raise prices as well to carriers. It's not really in their best interest to alienate AT&T, as their ROOT channels pretty much survive off the local cable carriage, and not a real national-style audience, outside of Uverse, FiOS, and Dish (besides themselves).

I don't think they'll be going anywhere, all things considered.

Sure enough, Direct TV does own 4 channels, Root Pittsburgh, Northwest, Rocky Mountain and Utah.

I agree if AT&T and Directv are partners then we wont be losing any channels sports channels or Ion Life or Qubo this is not Crown Media although heard rumor that Hallmark & U-Verse are working on deal shhhhhhhh .

Please sight your sources or give us a link for your statement that you heard a rumor that Hallmark and U-Verse are working out a deal. Since you are not an AT&T employee, you would not be hurting anyone to give us the information.

I saw someone post about it on the Hallmark thread i don't know if its true or not but that is were i saw the info .

To say they're "working" on a deal could mean anything from "we'd like to sit down and talk" to ironing out final arrangements such as a launch date.

You must be referring to this post by Shoe( Russ?) where he received an email from Pam Slay Vice President of Marketing at Crown Media where she tells Shoe (Russ?) that

"things are looking up. Russ, we are very hopeful of a launch on UVerse sometime in 2012.  Thanks so kindly."
