And once again forces me to go into every TV and hide these channels in the time consuming manner that AT&T forces me into. Tomorrow they will probably add more channels we have to hide

These channels have been active in the Chicago area for a while. It allows you to watch different views of the Cubs home games when they are broadcast on WGN. They were also there last year during the latter part of the baseball season. If they are now available nationally, I would assume they would be active only when the Cubs are on the National WGN America (which is different than the local Chicago WGN)

Are there ever any Cubs or White Sox games that are telecast only on local Chicago WGN, but not on WGN America? I had always assumed that the Cubs and White Sox were always on both.
It would be nice for the White Sox to do the same for their home games.
Any word of when the starting date is for this on WGN America? I hope it will be for the next Cubs home game on WGN.

No, there are no games on WGN America that are blacked out.

So U-verse have two duplicate channels in channel 1180 and 1781. What are they going to do fix this problem?

Wonder if AT&T CAN DO THE SAME WITH the Fox Sports Channels?
Available in the Detroit area. The Cubs games on WGN, not the Tigers games on FSDetroit.

It would have to be Fox that does it. Would be nice. Would really be cool if they could do it at college football games.

It's for the Cubs mulit view. They do this on all Multi view channels, like the Masters had the network channel added for easy customer viewing.

This isn't AT&T doing this. WGN is. AT&T reached an agreement to carry the CUBS camera angles from WGN. Since WGN is no longer a "Superstation", they have a national feed called WGN America which is not available in Chicago. So, UV has 2 versions.. 1 in Chicago with WGN, 2nd for the rest of the country with WGN America ...
Tony,
If you are not receiving the Tigers games, their may be a problem with your zip code.. Post it and the magic sports elves will fix it

Currently, I see pictures on the Cubs multiview channels (1783 - 1788). The channels should be active during a Cubs home game.

The cool thing is that if your team is playing the Cubs in Wrigley, and the game is on WGN, you can watch on your channel and flip to the bonus channels during commercials. The extra channels are commercial-free and obviously not blacked out. As an extra bonus, there are no announcers.
Some of the camera operators could use some help. I missed a pitch, because the camera was focused on a fan. There could also be a score bug on-screen, but I can live without one. If I need to see the score, it's an easy flip.

FYI, there are about 10 to 13 cameras covering that game. The director makes the decision about which camera is on line. The camera operator who got that shot was assigned to get shots of fans and shots like that. If you are going to blame anybody, blame the director. Just a thought.

Nothing. They have duplicate QVC and HSN's, IIRC.

I like the whole multi-angle multiview concept, but the UV programmers need to specially design an app for this. They need to improve the UI and make angle changing smooth and seamless, with no interruption of audio and a nondisruptive and no-brainer way to switch between feeds, making the user the director in a sense. While they're at it, maybe add other interactive controls and features, such as Instant Replay and optional information overlays (such as player and team stats).
But then people would complain about having to use an app - muych like they did for Music Choice. ![]()

The link below is to an article on Multichannel new about the Cubs Multiview:
AT&T and WGN America are taking Chicago Cubs fans across the U.S. inside the Friendly Confines, with an interactive TV app that lets U-verse TV subscribers pick which camera angle they want to watch.
The telco on Tuesday is launching Chicago Cubs Multiview, an interactive TV app that lets U-verse customers view up to four different camera angles of the Chicago Cubs home games on one screen, selecting from the main WGN America game broadcast and among six alternate camera angles.
The app debuted last year, available only to U-verse TV customers in Chicago. The launch this week marks the first time AT&T has made multi-camera angle functionality available to U-verse TV customers nationwide.
Chicago Cubs Multiview will be available to all U-verse TV customers subscribing to U100 and above on channel 780 and also on 1780 (HD) for customers with HD access (which is $10 additional per month). The app is available for the majority of Cubs home games that air on WGN-TV and WGN America for the rest of this season, starting with St. Louis Cardinals at Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, May 10, at 7 p.m. Central.
A WGN America spokeswoman said the multi-camera viewing features were implemented based on U-verse TV used AT&T's specific technology platform. But she added that the network is regularly discussing new features and capabilities with other affiliates.

I live in Galloway OH and could care less about Chicago baseball yet I have 7 channels with different views for baseball in Chicago. I realize ATT has a large presence in Chicago but come on!
Couldn't I at least get some Reds or Indians programming? If not, how about finding a way to give me some other channels I might care about? I would gladly trade all of those channels for Smithsonian and Planet Green.

The Cubs multiview channels are only active during Cubs home game on WGN (channel 180/1180). The cameras used for the different viewing angels were placed in Wrigley Field by WGN not by AT&T. AT&T simply carries the broadcast of those cameras.
Any channels that you do not wish to see in your Guide can be hidden: MENU --> Options --> Channel Options --> Hide Channels

buck630 - I'm inferring from your post that you like the Indians and Reds. If those teams are playing at Wrigley Field and the game is on WGN and FS Ohio or SportsTime Ohio, you can watch your broadcast on FS Ohio or STO and then switch to those additional channels during commercial breaks.
Because the additional Cubs channels are not blacked out and are commercial-free, you'll be able to eavesdrop on Wrigley Field when STO and FS Ohio are in commercial breaks. In all honesty, that's a good thing. ![]()

More channels are always better than less channels. The multiview for baseball is just an oddity but it is just a matter of time before we all become our own directors for sporting events. The technology will make it inevitable. I'm looking forward to the view from the helmet-cam of the linebacker zeroing in on Tom Brady...

It depends on the service. With cable, it gets to the point where two or three channels have to share the same frequency, which degrades the signals.
U-Verse uses something akin to Switchable Digital Video (i.e. the box requests channels from some server, and the server sends just those channels), doesn't it? In that case, I don't see how you could ever have "too many" channels (well, unless you end up having to enter six-digit channel numbers).
