I thought I would ask the experts here some questions for a new install. I am coming from Directv (TV) and Comcast (Internet) and moving so am considering UVerse. The rental place can get Uverse.
1. Is there a contract in place if you take advantage of 6 or 12 month pricing, is it limited for those periods? I ask as its not very clear on the website?
2. How many HD streams can you have at once to record? I have two DirecTV boxes so can record 4 HD streams.
3. What have folks in Atlanta GA seen in terms of HD picture quality and internet speeds?
Thanks
Dylan

1. Special promotional pricing should be available for a 6 or 12 month commitment. After that period, the regular rates kick in.
2. With U-verse, you will have a single Total Home DVR (THDVR) which can record 4 programs at the same time. Up to 3 of the 4 programs can be HD channels. The order recording would have to occur on an SD channel.
3. With U-verse, unlike cable, the picture quality and experience, are pretty standard nationwide. You will find that options on picture quality vary greatly from "best I have seen" to "worst that I have seen" and all options in between. It is something that you truly need to judge for yourself.

2. The tech will tell you how many HD streams you can have in your house at once. This number depends on your line quality and how far away you are from their VRAD box.
3. This is mostly true, but a lot of picture quality issues can be fixed with repair or replacement of coax. Some people recommend using CAT-5 or CAT-6 wires into the DVR.

The number of HD recordings that can occur at the same time is now standard for all new customers. The 19/2 line profile is no longer been rolled out to new customers. Both the 25/2 and 32/5 line profile provide for the recording to 3 HD channels and 1 SD channel.

Thanks all... that helps. 3 HD streams are a minimum in our house ![]()
How much HD hours does the DVR store if you all do not mind me asking? Also, do they still do a 30 day period in which you can cancel at no cost? I ask as I have had two different answrs from CSRs online.
Thanks

There are several threads around that compare DirecTv and Uverse. You might want to search and read them so you'll get a better idea what to expect after you have changed

Yes, there is still a 30 day period after your install where you can cancel all of your U-verse services and owe nothing.
The number of HD hours that can be stored on your DVR depends on which DVR that you have. The newest DVR's have 500 GB hard drives. The stated HD recording capacity for these DVR's is stated as 139 hours; however, my experience is that the actual capacity for HD is over 160 hours.
