Sorry but another post about Media Share - I did several searchs for my problem but did not find anything like so here's another post.
When I try to set up my Windows Media Player 11 to share my library there is no "unknown" icon to check. I have two computers both have the same problem. All the instructions that I have read have said the first step to install Media Share is to check the sharing icon in Media Player. I can't check it if it isn't there. I spent nearly two hours with Uverse Tech Support with no luck. They said to call Microsoft and get a DRM Reset Key. I asked if Microsoft tech support was open today (Sunday) and of course ATT said yes. They are open if you want to pay for "emergency service".
Has any one out there had this problem and how did you fix it?
Thanks

Silly question - are the STB's on when you are trying to locate the unknown device? They must be powered on, when you are setting up MS on WMP11. If not, I would power them all on and then you should see all at one timewhen setting up sharing under WMP11.
TVersity does not need that additional setup step.

Just to add one thing....You also need to have the media share app up on the STB and searching for available computers.

I didn't have the app running when I setup wmp on my computers. The unknown device was displayed in the share folders.

I stand corrected....I misinterpreted the instructions:
If no Windows Media Connect servers are available,
an information screen appears indicating that the
U-verse set-top box could not find a computer to
access the files from.
Make sure the computers to be accessed are
turned on and media sharing is enabled.
I thought i remembered it saying STB. Thanks for the clarification.
I hate it when I do that!!

All right everyone - Even with all three STB's on, there is no unknown icon in either of my two computer's Windows Media Player library sharing window. I got to Microsoft and they sent me to www.msdn.microsoft.com to download the DRM program. I download and then try to install the program and it came back saying what I was installing was an older verison than what was on my computer. Any other suggestions to find my lost icon so I can run Media Share?
I wouldn't put much stock in Microsoft to help here. I'm sure that AT&T did their own developing of the Microsoft Media Room client.
I'm not very smart when it comes to Firewalls and Routers but do use either BESIDES the UV RG?
Work Around: Download TVersity and set it to XBox 360 mode. I had pre-installed this software before Media share was activated here. It was showing on my STB as soon as Media Share was activated!

Did you try the Media Share setup Wizard? You have to setup and enable file sharing through WM11. you can find it here:

I have the same problem, STB cant find PC and PC does not list STB. (I am spending way too much time on this, you all are my last hope!) Here's a rundown:
- enabled sharing on WMP ( my computer recognizes my X-box but still no STB)
- Did every firewall edit I could, including entering each port manually for media sharing
- completely turned off my firewall and still not found
- ran the wizard, still no STB listed under devices
-Uninstalled,re-installed WMP, Deleted and added network, reset router, restet computer
-Entered my IP address and the STB IP address under windows firewall as an exception
-allowed any program that had the word "media player" listed under windows firewall exceptions; including domain, public, private, any ect!!!
Someone in an earlier post mentioned something about the RG box, I have the router and a big black box plugged into it. Obviosly I am clueless as to what this thing is, but could this be my problem? Can someone "kindergarten talk" me through fixing this mess before I really mess up my computer settings forever??!???!

You have sharing turned on, and unless things have changed, this is what worked for me (XP and 7).
Go to each TV, one at a time; call up MediaShare.
Go back to your computer and that STB/DVR should show up, then authorize.
Look for any other programs that might be blocking like ZoneAlarm, so turn off temp. or add exceptions.

Try connecting both your computer and STB to the RG with ethernet. If your STB connects using coax on HPNA connection try plugging your computer's ethernet at the back of the STB where it says "network". I believe your PC will fall on a HPNA connection too if you do it that way but they are still network-ed together.
Check with your computer's firewall too. Add Windows Media player 11 on the exception list or try to turn off your firewall for the mean time and run mediashare again to see if its your firewall. If its still not working, check with the RG's firewall. Run 192.168.1.254 or gateway.2wire.net on your browser. Go to the firewall settings, then set your computer on DMZ plus mode. This will open all the firewall data ports on the RG for your specific computer.
If its still not working, try rebooting your RG and STB. Or run 192.168.1.254/mdc or 192.168.1.254/management on your browser. On the RG's interface, go to the "Resets" option, and clear your Local network list from there. This will let the RG to drop and rediscover the devices connected to its network.
If its still not working, though I am sure its a networking problem, try reinstalling your Windows Media Player 11 the reboot your computer.
