I'm having recurring problems with very slow performance in the Yahoo/AT&T E-mail application. Internet speed everywhere else is quick and snappy. But E-mail often drags to almost a stop and I occasionally get the message from Yahoo that there is a problem and to try again later. This is getting to be a real nuisance. Again.....I've tested my download speed and it is running quite close to the 18 mbps that I'm subscribed to.....both on my laptop which is connected via Ethernet AND my laptop connected by Wi-Fi.
It isn't JUST downloading messages....it's also any action at all that I take within that Yahoo/AT&T app. like deletions, moving messages to other folders....etc.
I used to use Windows Live Mail but, as I've posted before, it no longer works with Yahoo/AT&T. I've tried all the suggestions passed to me here on the forum but none have helped. So I'm back to using this darn Yahoo/AT&T app. Oh yeah...I also occasionally use Gmail but usually only when I want to insert an image into the body of the message.
Soooooo....am I the only one or are others experiencing these slow downs with E-mail?

If you mean the webmail for ATT/Yahoo Phil (not sure if this is the app you meant), the emails I click on come up immediately, no delay at all. ![]()

I've noticed the poor performance of the Yahoo/AT&T email program for quite some time, especially on my XP desktop, as a matter of fact it's so bad I hardly use it and go with Thunderbird instead.
As far as Windows Live Mail, I bought a Win 7 Toshiba laptop last Christmas and set Live Mail to send and receive from both my Yahoo/AT&T and Hotmail accounts and it's been working perfectly.

Yes, Chris....I guess that is what they call it....Web Mail. I never have paid attention to the actual name. This morning it was horribly slow, as usual. But everything else is working fine. This problem exists on all three of our PC's....both laptops and my desktop. I think the slow speed problem is worse around mid-morning than at any other time during the day or night. In my humble (and totally, unqualified) opinion....I think that Yahoo's servers are overloaded.
Here is the message I just received when trying to access Web Mail. I get this one a lot:
Sorry for the inconvenience.
We're sorry, but att.net Mail has encountered a temporary error. You can try back again shortly, or visit our Help pages for ways you might be able to fix the issue yourself (Temporary Error 15).
Thanks,
The att.net Mail Team
As I stated....Live Mail refuses to work for me with AT&T/Yahoo anymore. That problem also exists on all three PC's. It used to work great....and then suddenly stopped a few months ago. I've tried every suggestion that has come my way from all the good folks here trying to help me and none have worked. So I've given up on that.
I like Gmail but getting to it is a bit of a pain....because I'm naturally lazy. I use FF V13 and FF has not been compatible with the Google tool bar for many versions back. I did manage to persuade the Gmail icon to appear in the Yahoo tool bar but I wish I knew a way to put Gmail on my desktop screen so that I can go straight to it without having to go to the browser first. There's probably a way....but I just don't know it.
I have a theory....the efforts to make everything more user friendly have resulted in such severe streamlining that the ultimate effect has been to actually make everything LESS user friendly and less capable.

I have the same issues at home and at work (T1 line). It sure seems to be Yahoo problems.

Thanks for this suggestion. Been there done that....and it did not work for me.
HOWEVER....(drum roll)....I took the drastic step of using my Revo Uninstall program and removed all of Windows Live Essentials from my laptop AND my desktop. Then I even ran my registry cleaner app on both PC's. Then I restarted them and reinstalled the entire Windows Live Essentials suite on both......including Live Mail. Then I accessed AT&T Internet support and downloaded and print out the doccument "Email server settings (POP and SMTP). Then I set up both PC's with the listed settings for my particular e-mail address type and wha-d'ya-know. They both now are working.....importing mail to Live Mail AND successfully sending it out of Live Mail.
Took me about an hour and a half. I could swear I have done all this before but obviously I was missing some critical step somewhere. As the A-Team leader used to say...."I love it when a plan comes together."
Danke Schoen y'all.
Now if Yahoo would just get their act cleaned up so their Web Mail would work right.....everything would be hunky-dory.
Phil

I spoke too soon. Went to use Windows Live mail and it won't work AGAIN. Since there was no action nor meddling with the settings on my part (they are exactly the same as they were when I last posted that everything was working fine) I can only assume that it is AT&T/Yahoo Mail that is deliberately refusing to let me use the WLM.
Furthermore.....I had been successful getting gMail to work and send and import my mail from AT&T/Yahoo. It seems to still send outgoing mail OK but I can no longer get it to import my mail from AT&T/Yahoo. Since I've made no changes in settings I can only assume....again....that the Yahoo mail system has taken some action to deny this ability.
I still maintain that AT&T needs to drop Yahoo and become associated with a service that works right. Well....since Yahoo is in dire financial straits anyway....perhaps the situation will take care of itself if Yahoo goes broke. Hope it happens sooner than later.

hpmsrm - Once you have a snapshot of Yahoo in Gmail you do not need to keep downloading. Set Yahoo to forward new mail to gmail.

OK I accept that. But why did it work just fine and then.....without me changing anything....a few days later it no longer works? I think there is something stinky going on up the line.
