Rumor regarding Phase 3

Keep in mind this is a RUMOR, but I just got off the phone with AT&T.  We all know how different reps can say different things, etc.

But, Phase 3 could be about 6 months away.  AT&T likes to release one major update per quarter.  The past few quarters have seen updates to HD streaming.  Anyhoo, when this update comes out, any additional STB you have COULD have to be replaced.  AT&T would mail out the new STB, and then a customer would go to the UPS office with their billing number and/or other pertinent information in order to mail back their current STB.

In other words, hopefully by June of 2011, we'll have the ability to pause and rewind live TV

Replacing stbs?  Thats a lot of money.  Not doubting what you say, but I will add this info to all of my other grains of salt.

Oh yeah.  I'll let my 84 year old, half crippled neighbor lady know about that.  She'll be thrilled to have to hook up her own equipment.

Thanks for an update, even if a rumored one; looks like they missed their target by about 6 mos.

Is this why so many of us are getting freezing on recordings and VoD?

Guess we all better get busy watching our recordings.

AT&T is replacing STBs not DVRs with phase 3 so your recording should be safe.  Key word is should.

Thanks.  I knew it would not be "end of the year" this year but thank you for that.  Good info on the possible replacement of the non-DVR boxes, too.  Not sure why everyone thinks that would cause a loss in recorded programs but maybe I'm missing something.

Only from the DVR; STBs (non-DVRs) cannot do that now.

Its interesting how talk of thdvr v3 has sprouted when mostly all of us have been experiencing freezing and pixelization periodically.  ATT is up to something, and it wouldn't surprise me if they are right on time with their initial rollout date.  It could be October 2011 or it could be next month.  I will just wait for the posts that people have it.  Not discounting the rumors by no means.

Let me squash at least one part of this rumor.  You will not have to replace your STB.  THDVR Phase 3 is part of a software update that will be pushed out to all customers automatically.  And no, you know I am not allowed to tell you exactly when that is going to happen.  And yes, the Xbox 360 is currently included in that update.

Not sure what you mean about the xBox 360 update.

Also, feel free to give us a general hit as to when we might see the Phase 3 update.

THDVR 3 is part of a major software release for U-verse, so all STBs, including the Xbox, will have to be on the same version of the client.  From what I understand at this time is that the Xbox will also have the capability to do the "trick mode" features, like pause and rewind live tv.

Nothing specific, sorry.  You know I have certain limits on what I can tell otherwise I would love to tell you all everything that is going on.  I can tell you that there are a lot of good things in the new release that you will like.

I am not going to pick a date, but I really think ATT is about to rollout a pretty good size app/upgrade pretty soon.  Every time lots of people post they are seeing freezing and pixelization ATT rolls out an app or upgrade shortly afterward.  We are clearly seeing the result of maintenance and who knows what that ATT is doing right now.  IMHO
