Anyone know of a good way to find internet service providers that are actually available for my area? I've tried googling "internet service providers for ZIP CODE" but the results are always for some other location.

What's wrong with the service you have now?

Well, you could just call them. The web sites of each provider should have a main Customer Service number you can call. Give them your address and they'll tell you if you're eligible for their service.
Another novel idea, go talk to your neighbors and see what they have.![]()

DSLReports.com .... this is how they got their start; finding DSL providers in your area.
Be aware, however, that if AT&T (or whoever) is your "ILEC" (the wireline provider for your region) all DSL will be provided across their infrastructure, with different active infrastructure once your line hits the Central Office. What that means is that if the problem is of a physical nature (bad stretch of cable, poor connection at a junction somewhere in the line) ... that your service will be just as bad.
The only way to change that would be to change media (to Coax / CableTV, or Wireless (like WiMax / CLEAR).
Good Luck
