Actually, there is no cap at present on U-verse...AT&T is "trialing" in one area ... but most likely for future expansion...so be aware.

I don't do alot of heavy movie/music downloading although I download/upload once/twice a month is this something I have to worry about? I do some online gaming like World of Warcraft and COD4, I chat in a small IRC network which I currently administering as well (so i leave my irc client connected almost 24/7) I do some VNC'ing and SSH'ing to connect here at work I do a little bit of youtubeing once in awhile. I've been reading that Max 10/1.5 has 150Gig cap. Is that not enough with the stuff I do "most" of the time? Sorry, I'm a little anxious, worried and very curious about this service.
In my opinion I would be somewhat concerned. I don't think "worry" would be the right thing to do, because it wouldn't change whatever is going to happen. Too much important *&$#O going on in the world to worry about it.

I think you'd be fine. Just to be cautious, get a bandwidth usage monitoring utility and watch over a month of your peak usage. You could also just not worry about it for a bit, because as previously stated, the caps are only in Reno, Nevada at the moment. You're service won't be subject to the caps for at least 3 months. Though if AT&T likes the results of the Reno trials, I wouldn't be surprised to see the caps rolled out across the country within a year - by 2010.
If you are subject to the caps, AT&T, unlike some other providers, at least provides a website you (those subject to the caps only) can login to providers monitor your usage. They also warn you when you hit 80% of the cap limit. Once you hit the limit it's $1/GB for additional overage. (They have amnesty for the first month you hit it.)

The "caps" which are only being TESTED in Reno, are for the DSL service only, NOT for UVerse...this has been confirmed to me by several TIER 2 agents, and they say there is ABSOLUTELY no talk about this even coming to UVerse, so I would worry about Global Warming and the Economy, before I would worry about Uverse "caps"..

A link was already posted to a page on the members only site for Uverse which listed the details of the caps. Unfortunately, Uverse was listed along with DSL.

this is bullcrap. The official notice from AT&T says that it's both U-verse and DSL.

The site link is in one of the dozen or so threads on this topic here. You'll have to search on it.

Looks like the max 18 cap is going to be the same as the 150 max cap! ouch AT&T really wants no one to sign up for max18.

thanks Tim, but that link takes me a my internet useage page, and, since I have had uverse for less than a month, there is no data there..
Actually, I am waiting for someone to post the official link from ATT Uverse, that some folks here claim lays out ATT's OFFICIAL cap limits and dates of implementation..
EDIT: OK, that edited link you just posted actually shows the limits they are talking about...have you seen anything about the official date of implementation of this?
thanks again!

No, because there's been no official announcement of any implementations
beyond, "We're testing caps on DSL (not U-Verse) in Reno, NV."Re: Should I worry about internet usage cap

There is no official date or info as stated this is a trial. May or may not happen.

Works for me, because until I see what they are going to do, I'm not signing up for anything new.

I checked out that usage link also wase and I've had UV since Sept 2007 and it still shows nothing for me either. ![]()
Actually, I saw in one of the announcements somewhere, please don't ask me to recall where, but AT&T mentioned something about maybe adding one more city to test for the caps before EOY and that was it.

Well, if they went through the trouble of putting that web page together, then its a sure bet that they will be implementing this eventually..
so stupid of them to plan on LOWER usage caps than Comcrap has instituted....They will SHOOT THEMSELVES IN THE FOOT in their quest to bury Comcrap, if they have LOWER usage caps then Comcrap..
HEY ATT, ARE YOU GUYS ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL OR SOMETHING???

Makes you wonder how secure the jobs of the people that implemented these caps and it causes potential and current customers to run to other providers.
Has anyone tried to order from another ADSL Provider? Other than cable you will find that you can't get ADSL from another provider when you have Uverse. In light of that I think AT&T is betting noone will go back to cable. I have ADSL on a second number in the house before they implemented the no ADSL when you have Uverse on a 2nd phone line. I use it for gaming since Uverse adds about 20-40 ms to FPS on-line gaming. This will leave folks with 3 options. 1- Put up with the caps, 2 - Go to your cable provider, or 3 - Dump Uverse and go back to what you had before and get an ADSL based provider. Since 90% (Maybe higher) of the Uverse Customers are using it to check email and cruise the web and won't be affected by it. My ADSL provider has no caps, but I also have lowest package since it's only used for gaming (Me and 4 kids). If Uverse implements the caps I will probably up the ADSL to 6/1 and dump the AT&T Internet portion.
