First time posting an issue with my U-Verse internet speed. This issue has only occured when I recently changed my internet speed from 12 Mbps to 18 Mbps about a month ago.
I am currently paying for 18 Mbps, which is the $58.00 plan. My issue is that when I connect via ethernet cable I get
.57 Mbps or lower. The weird thing is that when i connect wirelessly sometimes, I get the internet speed that I'm paying for. But most of the time it still about 1.50 Mbps wirelessly. At random points of the day the Mbps will be at normal and than just dramaticly drop. This is an on going issue that I have been experiencing for about a month now. I have tried multiple times reseting my 2wire and leaving it off for a while. I don't wish to cancle my plan with ATT, I just hope i can get some support asap.
Thank you,
These are some tests done by Speedtest.net to show my download speed in both wire and wireless.

What other services do you have besides internet?
What make/model modem/gateway do you have?
Did you do a factory reset after the upgrade? To do a factoey reset, push and hold the reset button on the gateway for 20 seconds.
It's also possible your line will not support the 18 Mbps. Sometimes, when the speed is bumped up and the lines are not physically capable of the new speed, your connection will take a complete dump.

No I dont have any other provider besides Att U-verse internet. I'm a college kid with a budget, so i would like to get my moneys worth for having 18mbps lol.
My gateway is a 2wire 3800HGV-B.
I just tried the factory reset twice and still no change. Should i call Att to ask for a technician to swap out my gateway for one that is compatable with my new plan?

Your gateway is fine (or should be), it's the lines leading to your home (and possibly in your home) that might be at issue. Download this utility http://www.uvrealtime.com/download.aspx and post screenshots of the "IP Profile", "Error Table", and "Bit Loading" tabs, and someone here should be able to let you know if something stands out.

Are these screenshots from a good time or bad time, as far as speed, because everything looks pretty strong and clean.

I don't see any difference. It does not look like it's a line issue.
When you connect with an ethernet cable do you turn off the wireless on the gateway?
What operating system on your computer? Any firewall software?

no i dont turn off the wireless from my gateway when I use the Ethernet. But I don't think that would be an issue?
I have windows 7 home premium and my firewall is just the basic windows firewall nothing fancy.
Thank you joe for responding to my replys.

Humor me and give it a try.
Do you live in a dorm or apartment building? Any roomates?

its a house and i only have one roomate and she doesn't really use the internet like i do. She uses the internet wirelessly, my laptop and xbox 360 are the only two hardware that is physically connected to the gateway. plus the installation box is just outside my window and the 2wire is no more than half a foot away from where my laptop is and a inch away from my xbox.
where is the wireless on/off switch?

Does your roomate's computer also get the same speeds?
The reason I suggest turning off the wireless is to determine whether someone else might "sharing" your wireless without your knowledge. You should be able to access the gateway by clicking this link http://192.168.1.254/ . Click on the "Settings" tab, then the "LAN" tab, then on "Wireless". From the "Wireless Interface" drpop-down choose diabled. Click the "Save" button if there is one.
