U-verse Commercials in SD on HD Channels

How come U-verse commercials are always in SD, even on HD channels?  One would think that AT&T would want the best looking commercial quality to encourage potential customers to sign up for Uverse.

I think the commercials are SD and that's how the are sent to channels.  Some commercials appear to be HD, but not that many.

You would think that U-verse would want the best looking commercial in order to give customers on satellite or cable the impression that U-verse is high quality, better than the medium they are currently watching.  You want to knock the potential customer's socks off, so to speak.

Instead they broadcast a commercial with narrowed width format and doubtful resolution - the same format that Kroger uses.

It has nothing to do with what U-verse is doing with the channels. Have you ever seen the local adds with atrocious picture and sound quality on an HD channel? That's because the producer of the commercial paid ATT to put a non-HD commercial in an SD format.

spd2demun is exactly right, "the commercials are SD and that's how they are" sent from the station broadcast to your HD Uverse channel.

You missed my point completely.  It's not what the U-verses system is doing with the commercial.  It's what the U-verse advertising folks at AT&T are commissioning to be produced!  The AT&T folks are specifying an SD commercial instead of and HD commercial for HD channels.  The competition (cable, satellite) certainly have better looking commercials for thier services.

Other providers don't always use HD commercials, Comcrap especially many times only has SD commercials.

Think what you see is the result of the capabilities that broadcast channel has available at the time the commercial is played.  ATT has HD and SD versions of the same commercials and there is no rhyme or reason which one will show up (same as many other commercials).

I was trying ot be nice with my post, but I guess the blunt approach is needed here.  AT&T's marketing personnel don't have a clue about good visual marketing.  All of their competitors, Xfinity, DirectTV and Dish Network, go to the expense of producing and airing good quality HD commercials about their services for use on HD channels.  AT&T went the cheap route and used the same quality of commercials on both HD and SD.

I have had HD U-verse for over 3 years and am pleased with it.  However, if I had a different service and saw the AT&T U-verse commercials, I probably would not be inclined to switch to U-verse.

To be clear, I am only talking about commercials for AT&T U-verse service.  I know that AT&T does not have control over the quality of other commercials.  They only air what is presented to them on the feed.

On the rare occasion that I watch live TV, I'll see a commercial in it's entirety and think "oh...so that's what that's for...."
