With the addition of the 4 HD channels today, AT&T U-verse now carries the most national HD channels of any TV provider.

Comparing that chart 38 of U-verse's national HD channels are the 4 premium movie channels: HBO, Cinemax, Showtime & TMC. Personally I like Dish Networks 103 national HD channels they seem to have more variety: BBC America, Fashion TV, Fox Soccer channel, MAV TV, Logo, Nat Geo Wild, NBA TV, Sportsman Channel, Tennis Channel, Epix, Indiplex, Retroplex, NBA League Pass, NHL Center Ice. If Dish could just add MLB Network I think I would be sold. Not a threat I'm just sayin.![]()

While I am thrilled with the additions of the new HD channels there are 2 glaring things on the report referenced. I dont have the time to find all these but they are very informative. The first thing I noticed is most of the HD difference between the 2 providers I have is in movie channels of which Directv doesnt have and is definetely not good in the movie area. The 2nd thing which is as glaring as ATT"s advantage is the sports area where there is no HD for ATT because they dont have any of the packages. Thats why I continue to have 2 services. Congratulations to UVERSE for the HD channels, which I am excited with. Now they need to get me more then 1 HD stream and please get us the sports packages so I can just drop Directv. Until then I still have 2 carry both services.

In my mind, if you're going to put a number on HD channels, duplicate East/West feeds should not count. If your service carries both HBO and HBO West, that should only count as 1 channel. DVRs are ubiquitous, the same programming delayed by 3 hours does not count as another channel.
I think if you eliminate duplicate East/West feeds, U-Verse still has a very high number of HD channels, but I believe is then edged out by DirecTV or Dish.

DTV counts the East/West feeds as additional channels. I've had DTV, U-Verse has more HD channels than DTV, not sure about Dish.

I would agree with that..At this point dish does offer a better mix of HD.
Its possible that Uverse is still in the contract mode with these providers.
Uverse is inching closer to my tastes but not yet there.
Wish list:
Tennis channel- God only knows when
Epix- Great channel
BBC HD
AMC HD
IFCHD
MSGHD

I though DTV had the most full time HD channels. Does u-verse count the part time HD channels in their total count? To Tell The Truth commercial prompted this question. I had never considered the part time HD ones.

Joe, while you observaton could be legitmate, most E/W feeds of the Premium channels are not 100% duplicative. Most if not all of the west feeds will have different programs on them.. just sayin... TBS and TNT E/W are usually pretty much duplicative

Which ones? The only things I can think of are when there's a live event (NBA on TNT, MLB on TBS, Boxing on HBO/Showtime) that is on both the East AND West feeds, which can make things be a little wonky before and after the event as things get back to the 3 hour delay.
I always thought that the west feeds of the premium channels were 100% exactly the same, but on a three hour delay.. which ones aren't?

Wow, that chart is not very accurate. My local cable provider, Cox, offers several channels (Style HD, Fox Soccer HD, etc.) that the chart lists as "not available.
And can NFL RedZone be described as a full-time channel? Shoot, it is only on 6 hours per day for only 17 days out of the year.
This chart does a poor job of comparing apples to apples. I have posted here before about my complaint about U-Verse being a new entry into the video market and charging $15 for their HD channels. You can't compare all of U-Verse's HD channels at $15 and only compare the cable operators free HD channels. Cox does have about 82 HD channels on their free tier, but they also offer another 25 channels for another $5. However, all of those channels are listed as "not available".
Why list all of U-Verse's but not all of the competitors? Pretty bogus chart IMHO.
