"U-verse Wishlist
JULY 31, 2008
6:00 AM -- As AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T - message board) closes in on delivering its U-verse service to 1 million customers this year, it's time to chime in with some suggested improvements to make the service even harder to give up when cable companies start really dropping their prices and becoming more competitive.
Here are my top five ways to make U-verse a little more unleaveable:

I have never used the Rg’s wireless. I send standard def over my wireless n all the time and works good. If they could get that working it would save install times and cost. But I kind of agree with you that it might not be practical especially in mcmansion size houses.
It’s funny though my installer said that wireless STBs would be a feature soon. That was last Feb. We all know about the stuff installers say though!
Sorry OptimusPrime!

Here is my list:
I would like to see more options to have customer guides. I would like to have a guide for HD, Kids, etc.
I would like to see the guide not take so long to update the information when browsing future shows.
I would like to have contol over the wireless power. I can change it now, but the management system will reset it every 24 hours.

1.6 automatically pads 1 minute before and 2 minutes after. It this causes conflicts... ARGH!!

Not sure if U-Verse has it, but when I had satellite, I was able to watch eastcoast feeds (Fox,ABC,NBC,CBS) being in California it was great to watch the shows I liked 3hrs early, Letterman and Leno all before 10pm our time was great.
I think this would be great if I could get it.

Give them time, they may offer it.

I'd like to see the ability to play music, videos and to look at pictures stored on a home computer. I know you can look at pictures uploaded to Flikr, but the U-verse hardware has everything necessary to act as a bridge to ones personal computer so I would like to see the necessary software implemented.
Would also like the channel guide to sort things by categories such as westerns, science fiction etc.

They're working on something like that, actually...called it MediaShare when a few people saw it by accident on their TVs (testing phase). So it will be coming eventually, we just don't know when.
It sounds like there is some kind of new sorting feature for people with THDVR, the 1.6 firmware update; not sure if that's what it is as I don't have it yet.

Spd, the sorting feature for THDVR is your recorded programs, not what is in the on-screen guide.

I had it for a few days but I didn't have my wife's pc laptop from work. I tried to use a UPnP media player on my mac but I couldn't get media share to find my computer on the network.

I have only had U-Verse for a couple of weeks but I have found a few things I would like to see changed.
1. When looking at the Program Guide and seeing a program that has already started but I would like to watch, provide me with a CHOICE that will show other Show-time for this program so I can easily record the next showing.
2 Provide the same option for displaying additional Show-time when you are watching a program and hit the Program Info button.
3. From my view, the Program Guide, especially the ONLINE Program Guide, does not display enough program time (only 2 hours displayed) or enough channels (only 6 channels). To go through 300 or so program choices can take half a hour or more and I spend most of that time pushing buttons (50 times). There has to be a better FORMAT or give us some choices, at least in the Online Program Guide.
4. Provide me with a way to play programs sequentially, especially a series recording. Let me explain. I have GranKids and they like to watch cartoons like SpongeBog. These cartoons usually last 30 minutes. I record the whole series for them but I have to go into the room each time a show ends and select the next one in the series. Can you not provide me with a screen to select several programs to play one after the other?
5. Provide me with a screen for MY favorites, the Wife's favorites, and the Kid's favorite channels so that only those channels can be displayed. Allow me to set up these list through online access, for each receiver in the house.

1. A feature that allows you to limit the number of saved shows. Time Warner has this. Tivo has this. Currently there is 1)keep until delete and 2) keep until space needed. An option that says "keep only 10 (or 5) copies and then delete oldest" would be good. Why do I want this? I live with an 8 year-old who records 1000 shows. Although he is told to delete, of course, he doesn't. I would prefer to not have to spend time cleaning up my DVR. :-)
2. The parental unlock. After typing in the code, the user is asked AGAIN if they REALLY want to unlock. This is very irritating. I mean, I just entered the code because I want to unlock. Why do I have to confirm again? Furthermore, after unlocking, sometimes Uverse decides to relock itself in the middle of a show after you've just unlocked it.
3. The Yahoo WebRemote page while a cool feature, is very kludgy. It also has issues staying in sync with what is on the DVR.
4. There are issues with surround sound. Often the sound cuts out and we have to reset the settop box.
All these little things add up over time.....

My Wishlist:
1: Keyword Searching.
Time Warner had this and it worked great!
2: A system that would categorize movies by genre. Westerns, Mystery, Action, etc.
Another Time Warner feature that worked well.
3: A box that would not freeze when I finish watching a recorded show and want to switch to Live TV.
I know AT&T U-Verse are having some growing pains at the moment, and patience is required, but these would be some nice things to add.

Amen. I was going to post the same thing. I have to take time on Friday to delete a weeks worth of episodes kids shows.
2. I also echo the sentiment that the shows need to be categorized. We are a sports watching family and with our MCE we would always filter to the sports shows to see what was on. It was a beautiful feature.
3. It seems obvious that when you pull up a recorded show that you would want to see the original air date. It has that info when you pull up the info before you record the show but not afterward.
4. Also, I really hope that they make the mediashare available for videos as well. We have several saved shows/movies/home movies on the old MCE still that we like to watch. It would be nice to be able to watch those on any TV through the mediashare. I haven't seen anything regarding video in the plans, but I will welcome the pictures and music sharing portion as well.
Otherwise, I've been very hapy with U-verse. I can't wait for WHDVR to get to my area.

On FiOS they let you do that, but not UVerse.
