more than an hour later, still doesn't work. Shouldn't the rrdtool create a log file in its directory that UVRT pulls to graph? Nothing is created in that dir. there is no process rrdtool running under services or processes in taskmanager. Running UVRT in admin mode on Win7/64bit and all AV/Firewall disabled.
edit1: aahh! router interface used for internet HPNA2, not Ethernet. The data it shows when I check that makes sense. Ethernet does not give any data.

Check "C:\ProgramData\UV Realtime" and see if there is a file called "UsageDB.rrd". This is the usage database.
If it's there, open a command prompt and type:
c:
cd \
cd "Program Files (x86)"
cd "RRDtool"
rrdtool.exe fetch "C:\ProgramData\UV Realtime\usageDB.rrd" AVERAGE > "C:\ProgramData\UV Realtime\test.txt"
Now open the following file in Notepad:
C:\ProgramData\UV Realtime\test.txt
Check the 2nd-to-last line and the last line of the file and see if there are numbers in those lines other than "-1.#IND000000e+000"

Ahh ... yes, that's the other item I was going to have you check. If you have an iNID, Ethernet byte counts are not available from the i38HG unit. You have to use the HPNA2, which is the master interface connected to the i38HG.
For iNIDs, the "Ethernet" interface is the master Ethernet jack out in the iNID on the side of the house, usually not used.

perfect, now the Interfaces tab makes sense (I think). Internet VDSL is total of 258Gb, which includes Coax (TV) and TP/HPNA (internet) (215Gb plus 45Gb ~ 260Gb). Do I interpret this correctly? The usage is shown reverse though, Coax is shown as 215Gb out and so is TP/HPNA with 45Gb out. under the Usage tab the same data (at least as far as it recorded it) is shown as downloaded for both (confusion: out and download). Guess it's a matter from where I start looking at what goes where ![]()
btw. I noticed that you actually show a pic of the iNID under interfaces. beautiful update!
ps: Would be great if somebody wrote a Windows 7 Gadget or yahoo widget to stick it onto the desktop

Hi, Thank you for all the hard work you've put into U-Verse realtime.
I would like to request as a feature the ability to designate the VDSL line as a valid interface for gathering use statistics.
I know this is not an accurate measure for subscribers to U-Verse television, but I only have U-Verse for internet and as such, all VDSL data is metered internet.
Having this as a option would make the meter more flexible and for a wider variety of (physical) network configurations. I would suggest that if a user selects the VDSL line as their interface for measuring, that they get a warning that they should only choose that option if they do NOT subscribe to U-Verse TV :-)

That's an odd one. I tested for over a month and didn't run into any errors with RRDtool. Indeed, I didn't modify it's code at all, it's a straight copy of what's available from the RRDtool site, just compiled for Windows instead of Linux.
The only advice I can offer there is to clear your usage database and start with a new one ... maybe the usage database became corrupted somehow.
Shut down UV Realtime, then delete the file (or move/rename it):
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\UV Realtime\usageDB.rrd
Start UV Realtime back up ... it will create a new blank database.

Cool, glad it's working.
Can't compile a Mac/Linux version unless .Net Framework 4.0 is made available on those platforms (not likely). Even then it would still require several code changes to be able to use WinPCap.

HI SJ,
I am currently having an issue installing your latest version of U-Verse Realtime.
The installer won't skip the installation of VC++ 2010 Redistributable if it detects a newer version on the system. An error box with the following pops up.
"Setup had detected that this computer does not meet the requirements to install this software. The following blocking issues must be resolved before you can install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Redistributable Setup software package.
Please resolve the following:
A newer version of Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable has been detected on the machine."

Please try to manually install the VC++ 2010 redistributable from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx
Once that's installed, please try to install UV Realtime again.

Sorry SJ same error.
I think the VC++ 2010 redistributable that's provided by the Microsoft Download Center is an older version than the one currently on my system with Visual Studio 2010.

Ya, I suspected you might have VS2010 installed. VS2010 installs a slightly later version of the runtime (10.0.40219 vice the installer's 10.0.30319).
After browsing around Microsoft's support forums, it seems that the Microsoft bootstrapper installer is the problem -- it doesn't recognize later versions of the runtime and skip the installation.
The only work-around is to go to Programs and Features and uninstall:
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 x86 Runtime - 10.0.40219
Then run the UV Realtime installer which will install 10.0.30319.
I don't think there will be a huge problem with this unless you're developing C++ projects that need something specific in the 10.0.40219 runtime. In the worst case, after UV Realtime and the 10.0.30319 runtime are installed, you can do a Repair installation on Visual Studio to put the 10.0.40219 runtime back.

I had the same problem updating to 1.8.0.0 . Fixed by downloading the 4.5 installer per directions.
Thanks for very useful software!

Dan -
Do you want us to post any and all UV-realtime comments and questions on this thread? Assuming yes,...
I upgraded to v 1.8.0.0 and noted the Premium Usage Meter option - very nice.
From the activation menu, it looks like you have room for many new optional features. The one I'd really like to see is a historical graph of VDSL2 errors, similar to what you get with VDSL Monitor. I need this for debugging my HF amateur radio problems. (many!)
Thanks!
Martin

Your RRDtool.exe error that you're getting is not normal, and probably has something to do with your particular machine. I used to have a XP machine that did that on occasion (with other software) and it turned out to be faulty hardware (bad memory, if I remember correctly).
Yes, less than 2 GB of data transfer is probably too little to show up on the bar meter. Take a peek again when you get to about 5 GB and you should see something.

That is a possibility ... VirtualBox may have some type of emulation error, or a mismatch between the actual processor type on the Mac vs. the virtualized processor type in the VM.
You might try seeing if such issues are mentioned or addressed in one of the forums dedicated to VirtualBox. You may also want to try a different virtualization environment and see if that makes a difference. VMware has a 30-day trial of Fusion for the Mac:
http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/overview.htm
If you do decide to buy, Fusion is reasonably priced at $79. Fusion also has a distinct advantage in that Windows apps running in the VM can be shown as Mac applications on the Mac desktop and menus. It's sort of like not having the VM running at all ... very integrated with the Mac desktop.
I must admit that I'm partial to VMware products ... I implemented VMware Essentials Plus at work on a 4-server cluster and am running about 16 VMs on it, all of which are virtualized servers. The system runs flawlessly and replaced 12 physical servers. Virtualization is literally the greatest thing to happen in IT since the advent of the client-server architecture.

I have UVerse TV, Internet and VOIP. My STB's are direct runs of CAT5 to the RG. My internet access's are seperate direct runs to RG. I am not using COAX at all. The attached screen shot shows usage on COAX. Where is this usage coming from?

I've been reading through the forum for awhile now and just wanted someone to take a look at my stats. Pay little attention to the number of corrected and uncorrected blocks had a thunder storm the day after I reset the RG. Numbers are usually very low with no uncorrected.

The usage you see on the coax interface is from the RG itself looking for HPNA devices. You can eliminate this by turning off HPNA completely on the RG on this page:

Your stats look perfect. You're very close to the VRAD, you have very even bitloading and plenty of reserve bits on the line.
