Is there a way to use my PC and a mic/head set to make calls via my u-verse RG or other device? Like skype?

Not right now, but hopefully that feature will be rolled out. Seems like this would be relatively feasable based on how Uverse works.

I guess we just wait and see. Hopefully the wait will not be very long.

it sure would be convenient to make calls using my PC head set with out the skype lag and echo and maybe get caller ID on the PC too.

Never had an issue with any lag or echo using Skype. We use it quite frequently (at least 1x if not 2x per week)

I never minded lag or echo as long as the voices were clear and legible.

Ok, I had to read this a few times before I understood the request, at least I think I understand it. Are you asking if you can use your Laptop/Desktop as a phone using your existing U-verse CVoIP service without having to use something like Skype? Like a native app that you could install on your computer and effectively turn it into another extension?
Like others have posted that feature does not exist but I admit that it would be pretty darn cool to do that. I know I would use it. I will forward the idea to the CVoIP team and see what they say. I would also think that it would be feasible to add video calling to it as well.

This is the type of app that will ensure my family keeps U-Voice. As it stands, this service is nearing the chopping block at our household due to the cost vs. value prop.

I brought this to the attention of the CVoIP Product Team. It looks like it is on the roadmap but there is no date yet.

I figured it would be available eventually, but the big question is WHEN?

I just finished installing U-verse internet and U-verse phone and found this thread while looking for just such a feature. It will be great when you have it. My company uses Cisco VOIP phones, and we have a software equivalent that we can use on our computers when we travel. Have your development team check out Cisco's IP Communicator for some ideas of how it might be done.

We use SKYPE also....with great success. The occurrence of lag seems to have some connection with the quality of the Internet service on each end. For example....we subscribe to 6 Mbps speed (Elite). My friend in Texas lives outside of town and he has DSL service at lowest level service. 1.5 Mbps I think. We don't get any echo in the audio but we do experience jerky video quite often.....even freezes which can last up to 15 to 20 seconds. But audio continues. Then....there is a family member who lives in Colorado. He has Comcast cable TV and broadband service. When chatting with him via SKYPE we experience no freezes in video and audio is great. The version of SKYPE we use is FREE. I doubt that any service of this type that AT&T provides would be free. But, perhaps better in quality? Time will tell I guess.

I use Skype on the Mac and PC and it works great as long as both parties involved has good speed also works pretty good on the iPhone. Guess I like this stuff alot I also use iChat and Face Time with the Mac.

yes, when?
I have no interest in using skype from my house to anywhere.
I have used it to call a skype phone @ my house when I was traveling outside the country and the quality was, OK.

Agreed, would be nice to have a Cisco software phone equivalent for Uverse Voice so we can make and receive calls directly from our personal computers (with our home number) and I'm sure Apple will approve a simliar app for IOS devices.
Another VOIP client..
This mean's I'll just get rid of all the old phone hardware around the house. Plus my computer and IOS devices are all on most of the time any how...
Also would be cool if we could send/receive faxes from the Uverse VOIP software solution...
I can't wait for all this to happen. Is there a estimate delivery date yet?

you're missing the point.
I've got my own viop system through u-verse, why would I want to use a third party product. I could (and do) just pick up the phone and make a call.
I just want at&t to make it accessable to me via my PC.

That may be a feature that could be in development by ATT. But if they keep to their already established practice, there won't be any announcment made that they are working on this feature. If you can do it, hang around and see if it is offered (some day),
