Does anyone know if Uverse will soon allow Netflix subscribers to stream directly to their TV's?

Doubtful as it will compete with UV's VoD.

Netflix is infinitely better. Microsoft sanctions Netflix on the 360 console despite Zune PPVs there as well.

There should be no issues at all, assuming I understand your question.
If you plug your TV's Ethernet connection into the U-verse connected LAN, you can stream from anywhere the TV's clients provide.
I have several TV's in the Lab (Samsung, LG, Sony, and Panasonic) with Internet conenctions; all of them can (and do, on my account) stream from YouTube, Netflix, VUDU and similar sites.
U-verse Internet does not filter any content, from any provider.
If you are talking about having a client accessed in or through the STB, then No, that is not yet a feature.

I am an AT&T employee and the postings on this site are my own and don’t necessarily represent AT&T’s positions, strategies or opinions.

If I literally interpret the question, then I assume the guy is talking about some sort of Netflix app. In this case, I do think it would be doubtful, UNLESS U-Verse was able to get a share of the membership fee.
Why would any provider offer a PPV movie option that competed with their video on demand feature AND they didn't see a profit from?
I would get a TV with an internet connection.

That is how I understood that question as well. I have Netflix, but it is through the Wii not through Uverse. If Netflix was owned by ATT then I would think an app would be possible. But they are competitors.

Competitors indeed but they are not really in the same race.
IMO, UV most likely would not have much to fear in customers reducing their PPV viewing due to Netflix. From what I have seen on the daughter and Son in Law's Netflix app through their XBox 360, Netflix streamed movies are for the most part what I call "catalog" titles which are a few months past new release and lots of TV episodes. AND UV's PPV should get new releases a month before Netflix, anyway. On the other hand, I feel that Netflix may cause a small % to downgrade their package, especially U-450 subs. I think that AT&T and Netflix could go hand and hand on the UV box - but I'm sure that somebody is gonna want some green.
FWIW, I have never rented a UV PPV.

How do you connect that Sony Blue Ray Player to Uverse? I am considering buying the Sony BDP-S570 but have no idea how to connect it to the WiFi from the Residential Gateway.

At the present time Uverse TV does not support Netflix. And as others have stated, it probably never will. However, if your TV, DVD player, and/or BD player have a built-in Netflix app use the Ethernet connection on the device to connect to the Uverse RG (wireless or wired) and you will be able to access Netflix. If your devices do NOT have the built-in Netflix app, or no Ethernet port, you can use a secondary device to get Netflix. For example, my Sony PS3 is connected to the Internet (through a wired connection to the RG) and I watch Netflix almost nightly (also Hulu Plus and Vudu). Other devices include the Microsoft Xbox 360, Roku models HD/XD/XDS, Boxee Box, Sony Media Player, and others. Hope this helps.

you don't, you connect it to one of the inputs (like hdmi) of the TV.
yes, it would be convenient to have netflix on uverse somewhere but all I do now is change inputs and there i am, on the blueray player

but, if you already have a good HD tv and blueray player and neither has an internet connection or netflix, you could buy a RoKu fairly cheap.

Wii side note. Initially Wii supported Netflix by inserting a Netflix CD into the wii. (not a movie CD, a CD with the Netflix software on it.) This week I noticed that the Wii can now download the Netflix software for free from the Wii store. Don't need the CD any more.

Or a Seagate Freeagent Theater+ or Seagate GoFlex box. I believe that the Seagate streams more file types from your PC than the Roku box does. Long story short, there are indeed many ways to get Netflix to your TV.

That is how I got the Netflix software. Went to the store and downloaded the free software. After it downloaded and installed we were good to go.

At the Neflix site the following is stated:
"Follow the instructions on your device to get an activation code."
The ATT Residential Gateway is not listed as one of the supported devices. Does the Sony BDP S570 Blue Ray Player have instructions to get an activation code? I didn't see it in the PDF manual.

There are no real instructions in the Sony manuals for connecting to the various services but it's not hard to do. Basically, getting set up for Netflix is a 3 step process:
- Connect the player to the network -- see page 15 of your setup manual. My blu-ray is connected via a wired connection so it was simple. Wireless connection seems to be a bit more challenging for some users but the S570 has an integrated wireless adapter and the setup should be straightforward.
- After the network connection has been setup, you have to register with the Sony server. Just choose the Netflix app from the video menu and follow instructions.
- Once that's done, you can select Netflix again and you'll get the activation code to input at the Netflix site.
If you haven't actually bought your player yet, you might want to check out Costco. The Costco version of that player is on sale in the store for less than $150
