Our ATT email addresses were set up by ATT Technician when the uverse bundle was installed. We left Time Warner after 10 years hoping for better service. I Have accessed my ATT email with MicroSoft Mail since the setup. Today received message when email opened that User ID and Password needed to confirm email server access, this never before required. Msg was generated by MS Mail. Spent 3 hours online and on phone with various ATT customer service reps who were totally dumfounded and unable to solve the problem. They transferred me to a captive "pay for service' group which I refused.
ATT's defense was that it was all Microsoft's fault and ATT had no responsibility. I do not accept that ATT has no responsibility. Yesterday and 2 months previous everything worked as expected through MS Mail.. Now I can receive email through MS Mail but cannot transmit and get an error message that the outgoing server cannot be accessed even though it is an ATT/Yahoo server and the server name and port assignments were provided by ATT. It was suggested that I use the ATT site, which I can use to send and receive but I prefer MS Mail and find it inconvenient to use the ATT site. Had I know the difficulties I would encounter with a seemingly simple change, I would not have changed to Uverse. Simple reliable Email is more important to us than the cable TV service

Carljb - Switch to gmail- Open a gmail account set it up in your MSmail. In gmail, download all your stuff from att. In the att mail set it to forward all your mail to the gmail acct.
Breathe a sigh of relief. You can even change internet providers without changing your e-mail.

Is Microsoft Mail the same as Windows Live Mail?
Your U-verse service does not include phone support for 3rd party email clients or other 3rd party products or services. You can view the support article in the link below for assistance with setting up email clients. You can compare your current setup to see if anything needs to be changed:

This might apply to you:
If you created a free att.net e-mail address after June 11th, 2011 you will not be able to use an e-mail client to access your e-mail.
