Im not trolling, i ordered and had uverse installed fri, my particular hd signal is so bad i literaly couldnt tell who was who watching college basketball, its so over compressed and pixelated i decided to come on the forum to find im not the only and at least half the threads have something to do with how bad uverse's hd is, im not claiming everyone has the same issue but alot, alot! of people do. I just think you guys are getting a little overprotective over your "tv service" c'mon guys chill. And yes i am going back to "comcrap" Agreed there customer service is shotty at best, however in my opinion being a HD/SD linear and digital film editor as a career i have to say comcast's native 1080i signal is far less compressed and much clearer to me as consumer, thats all.

It was not that great, but nowhere near as bad as you 'reported', sorry still sounds like you're trolling for your namesake. ![]()

Not trolling? You dig up a post that over 2 years old and start name calling? How is that not trolling. I'm not over protective of my service. You were rude and incosiderate in your post and that's complete uncalled for. Go back to your comcast service, no one here will miss you.

Oh, my bad. So "digging up" is typing in google "UVERSE HD HORRIBLE" and the first two results were this thread? wow, nice point. "'m not over protective of my service." lol!! kinda proved my point. Who are you? scolding me for being rude and inconsiderate....haha your hilariously uptight, you call it name calling, i call it the truth. "skeeterintexas" was acting like a "DOUCHE" in his replies to a guy giving his opinion on a tv service, so i called him out on it.....so what? who cares if its 2 years old, you make that point but yet your sure on here enough to reply every few hours......hmmmm?

I think one of the main points is that U-Verse's HD quality, while it still could use some improvement, has made some incremental gains over the lifetime of the service. The quality level that the original poster was referring to back in July 2008 is not the same quality that we see today.
While searches are good, and can usually find relevant material on this site, technology is always in flux, and things can change fairly quickly. Also, we have seen recently (especially with the March Madness basketball games) that sometimes the HD quality level from the source broadcaster can vary, and the same feed carried on other services and/or over-the-air can also not look good.
Again, I don't believe U-Verse's HD quality is yet at the level I would aim for, and it can still be improved, so don't take this as a "defense" of U-Verse.

As the original poster of this thread, I agree that the quality of the HD has improved over the last two years - the periodic pixel shifiting is much less than it used to be (though it is absolutely still there in lower contrast scenes)., and the well-lit/well shot scenes are nearly flawless. The main issue ATT needs to address is the fast moving pixelation artifacts. Both the summer olympics in Beijing and the winter olymics in Vancouver were wrought with low quality HD, especially during swimming and anything containing shots of snow. The HD quality of the openning ceremonies in Beijing were hilariously poor; were are talking VCD quality (remember those?) Discovery's Planet Earth was also kind of a bummer to watch at some points as there are lots of low constrast and fast moving scenes.
Either way, as a product, I like the features of Uverse better than anything out there - whole home DVR rules, and the the STB is smart enough not to use two tuners during the sometimes 1 minute overlap of two neighboring shows (e.g. show 1 runs from 8 - 9:01 and show 2 runs from 9-10:01) My last provider had to use two HD tuners for that 1 min and it got really annoying if we were recording another HD channel
Strange to see this thread all over again. Hard to believe two years have passed

Are there any recent news or plans on increasing bandwith?

No and ATT has never addressed that idea either. They strictly only emphasize how many HD channels there are. ![]()

I think the best hope is for new codecs or some additional tweaking of the current ones.

Yeh I gotta agree with most of the regulars posting on this thread.
I used to be a big U-verse HD complainer but it has gotten much better.
That pixel shifting thing drove me crazy and I think they have even made some advances with the crushed blacks. I do still think the colors are a bit overblown and u-verse compression fails in fast moving sports. Before the ball is hiked the picture is pretty great but when they all start moving the grass turns to fuzz and you can barely read the numbers on the players backs.
